Hey Guys!

New to this forum, and loving my new Corroler D4D Deisel 2.0L! 2003 i think (34k miles so far) Its fast enough.. got room and reliable! after a Corsa and Bravo its a god send!!

Anyway.. im a little confused as to how you check your oil propperly.. the manual says to check it up to tempreture.. however whenever i do this the dip stick is covered in oil.. and i cant get an acurate reading.. even after leaving it to sebtle for a while..

And when i check it cold.. i get a more acurate reading that sits right in the middle of min and max, so.. i have oil in there.. but is it enough?

also when do you guys have services? i had one at 22k and 32k

Hope this makes sence!

Thanks guys

Welcome to the Club

I check my oil by:

After a run where the Car has got up to full temperature park it on the flat and leave it for 10 minutes then check the oil, the majority will have dropped back into the sump giving you a good level on the dipstick, there will be some still on the dipstick higher up but this will just be residual.

Oil is thicker when cold (i think) thats why checking it warm is better as it thins out in a warm engine.

Service is a minimum of 10k i beleive on all the Rolla's, this is the minimum though, some people change oil more frequently.

You are wiping the dipstick clean then putting it back in to check the oil level aren't you?

Welcome. I'm not long here myself.

I wouldn't worry about warm/cold, it won't make much difference. I do mine cold for the reason you mention too. If it's in the middle and doesn't move between checks, alls well.

I change my oil+filter every 6 months or 5000 miles, whichever is sooner. Mine's a petrol though, and I'm not sure what is recommended for the diesels.

I agree, after the car ia fully warmed up park it up on a level surface. Let it sit for around 15mins then dip it. Check it once a week.
