My DMF has gone. Have a look at my thread Knocking Noise

If you think it might be your DMF then check it out cos it could scrap your engine and gearbox if it separates. You will probably hear some interesting knocking noises first though.

That's the same sound I had when my DMF was faulty. You should fix it before it's too late!

Did you find the cause of the problem?

yes found out what it is , the dmf, getting lots of vibration now but no knocking noise . so the dmf is on the way out what sort of time scale are we talking about before i have to have it done .. as you all no money is tight at the moment in the building trade, so cant really afford it at the moment , or is it worth having a loan to get it done , cant really afford that either , but if i have to have it done before xmas then so be .

Jib, it's hard to say actually when the dmf will go...you certainly dont want to be in the fast lane of any motorway when it does...It will be expensive, there's no getting away from that. You can save some money by buying the parts yourself (see thread at top of RAV4 forum from Anchorman or PM bodgit, he did his own)....

Hi

Yep I've done my own have a look at my thread Knocking Noise It cost me about £650.00 doing it myself including doing the timing belt and buying a manual which is basically crap for the DMF. Saved around £1100 I would guess. :D

Anchorman helped me out with diagrams though. Made my own engine support beam and used a basic socket set. So no expensive tooling. :D

I'm going to do a detailed write up for the group complete with some piccies where I've got them. Didn't even need to undo the wheel hub nut which I'm pleased about.

Made a couple of minor errors ;) which I'm happy to share but otherwise not too difficult a job. It took me a while cos I had to do it outside and in my spare time. I'm self employed so work some weekends. Made up a couple of guides to realign the gearbox for ease of refitting.

More than happy to share information if required.
