Malfunction Indicator Light

Hello, as well as being completely new to this forum I'm also completely new to the world of Toyota Corollas. Having previously been allied to VW Golfs.

Anyway, I've recently bought a 2005 Corolla 1.4 VVTI, I've noticed when I put the key in the ignition and give it turn (not starting the car), this light comes on. However when I actually start the car, it goes off automatically.

Is this normal? I've read the manual, but that seems to imply there's a problem if this comes on when driving.

I've had it less than a week and the only reason I went with Toyota was because of the problems I had with VW. :(

Any help and reassurances would be most appreciated.

When starting up the car it performs a number of system checks and as such some of the lights flash on. As long as they go straight out again, you don't have a problem.

P.S. Welcome to the forums :)

Cheers for the welcome.

The light goes out when the engine has started. However it doesn't go out if I leave the key in without the engine on.

Sweet! Many thanks, that's such a relief! Thought it would be, the car was only serviced a month ago.

Apart from this little worry, I'm enjoying the car immensely, far better than my lemon of a Golf MK V.
