Auris 1.4 D-4d 3 Door

I have a 16 month old 2.0 D-4d 5 door with 25k. My circumstances have changed and i don't get the lucrative mileage allowance from work any more. So I am just thinking what to do next and was wondering what a 3 door 1.4 would be like to live with? Any one have one?

I do... 1.4 D-4D. 5 doors though so...

Anyway, it's got like 14K on the clock and...

~40 mpg in city, pedal to the metal.

~47 mpg in city, normal driving.

~54 mpg in city, GOD MAKE IT STOP (and Lord "almost" grants thy wish)

In city, in this case, means occasional "stop-wait-go a little-stop-wait-curse-go a little-stop"s...

Performance-wise, after 2.0 D-4D, you will probably become something like this " <_< " but no worries because it won't make you " :crybaby: " ...

If you got questions, fire away! :gunsmilie:

I do have a 3 door 1.4 D4D one and problems aside the ones I referred before in other topics but are not related to the model but to the Auris itself the big change you will notice will be the power off course. He can be kinda slow when you want to just go way in 1st gear specially if you don't rev up to 2000 or so the Auris is pretty heavy and so 90 hp are not enough but maybe you can correct some of this issue with a power kit you can go up to 110 which is good. The rest was already stated like the consumption and all normal cruise speed is between 160-170. To go upper it will take a bit but never upper 180 km/h. I managed to go to 194 km/h but was on a 5% down hill in a highway and the car had 3 bags and 3 persons inside. But for a normal use is good on highway you can go up to 150 really quick

I drove one for a short while, and after a 2.0 you will notice the difference on acceleration as the 1.4 is quite sluggish, however once you are rolling it is great and good on fuel too, go to your dealer and test drive one, there are some good deals on the 1.4 models at the moment as the 1.4 is the engine of choice in this economic climate

I have a December 2007 1.4 D4D (purchased pre registered with 22 miles on the clock in June 2008). I just love it. It is fast enough for me even with 90bhp as it has the near identical performance than the one year old Corsa 1.4 SXI I traded for the Toyota. Someone mentioned that it was heavy but the good news is that (based on gross weight) it is lighter than the 2 litre diesel version by 130kg. That is significant. It drives well and the MPG is very good. I get 40mpg in the city and did get 61mpg on a 50 mile run along the motorway, sitting at 70 mph with two miles of city driving either end of my journey. Not bad!!

Just filled her up yesterday, 44 liters and the Trip A was 720... Which means "46.082474226804123711340206185567" mpg. Decent I assume... I would be more happy if it's 50ish but, well... :)

Man, I have to try this thing on the motorway... I wonder what mpg I get.

How many revs does the 1.4 Diesel do at 130 kph`in top gear (5th)?

3000rpm - 130kph

3250rpm - 140kph

Really?

The 1,6 petrol does ~4.000 rpm at 130kph.

I just thought that the small diesel would do the same as it is a rather small engine and a quite heavy car.

@Xana

- Quarter tank of fuel

- 7°C outside temperature

- 4 people in the car (including me, with 3 passengers - all grown ups, male)

- ~20 kilograms of luggage at the trunk

- Plane road (completely, no downhill at all)

- 205/55/16 V rated tires (36 psi cold, front/rear)

- Auto/AC was set to 17.5°C

- Rear demist on (the wires that demists the rear window, couldn't remember it's name in English now sorry)

- All lights were on (front/rear fogs, low beams, high beams)

It was steady, car was successful at holding a straight line without any difficulties, there was a little engine noise in the cabin and moderate wind noise. We stuck at 195kph and ~4300rpm for about 30 seconds, it just sat there without any movements... Also there were some minor uphills which throw us back couple of seconds and kph. I was going to let it roll like that more to see if it'll go higher but we had to take the exit from the highway.

Of course, 195kph was the reading on the speedometer, not GPS. So an error margin at the reading is expected, as it's a well known fact that speedometers are not 100% accurate at high speeds.

Why did you ask?

Toscane: I managed to reach +-207kph, but with some decline on the highroad, 2 persons in. On plane road it didn't reach that close, maybe 185kph or so...

Are you using a powerbox or repro?

No, engine is completely stock; no powerbox or repro. After ~180kph, acceleration was really slow, like it's never going to happen. Speedometer was going up to 195 like a snail, but it did eventually. How much did you wait at 185? Maybe if you kept on full throttle, it would have gone higher? I want to try it again soon but the weather is awful these days, not suitable for such try outs.

The max I went with mine was 194 kph and was downhill (a big downhill) with 3 people in the car and bags in the trunk. Measure from the GPS. I guess my engine wasn't pushed so much because in straight I couldn't reach more then 185 kph GPS measure too. Cruise speed of mine is not more then 175 or 180 kph. To go above that I have to wait and it depends of the road and wind.

Well we cannot expected miracles from a 1.4 litre engine in a car with 1260Kg.

Toyota sacrificed the gearbox, making it shorter in order to make the car able to move.

In fact, regarding the timmings, in accelerations and reprise, the 1.4 D-4D Auris is very good.

Even in 4th and 5th gear is accomplishes cars as Focus 1.6 TDCI 109cv, or even the new Golf VI 2.0 TDI 110cv (recovering from 80Km/h to 120Km/h).

After the 120 Km/h, it's natural that the car may not breathe as a Focus or a Golf, however, until there, it's very good. Even after 120, until 150-160Km/h, we have car.

After that...buy the 2.0 :)

By the way, the 1.4 D-4D is very good in city and in road until 90-100Km/h, giving a great relaxing driving.

The consumption, not being the greatest, is not the worst!!
