Hello,

My little bro has a 107, which he took for its first service (10,000 miles) yesterday. Having seen the invoice, I feel he has been somewhat ripped off and wondered if anyone could fill in some blanks for me while I wait for them to ring me back.....

The total bill (including nothing extra at all) came to £193.98.

This breaks down as:

10,000 Mile service - £105.45 < Is this just for an oil change? It took them about 35-40 mins, start to finish!

Engine Flush and Fuel Emission Control Service - £21.27 < what's that meant to be?

5 litres of Oil - £26.25 < surely thats too much oil?

Oil Filter - £9.83

Plug Gasket - £0.50

Washer Liquid - £1.79

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would have thought that all parts needed for the 1st service would be included in the cost of '10,000 mile service'. So the oil and filter should be included in that price.

And charging you £1.79 to top up your washer bottle is just taking the ***** !

'Engine Flush and Fuel Emission Control Service'

That sounds like they flushed through the engine and the fuel injectors when they did the service.

Found a link http://www.injection-correction.com/ which sounds like it fits. (1 can/treatment = £17)

Another thought is that they got a idiotic office temp to calc the price who screwed it up and it should of been :

10k service = £105

consisting of : engine flush etc.

Washer Liquid - £1.79

Pretty steep prices comparing to my country. 1.79 is about 2 euros. For 2 euros I can buy 10 litres of the stuff :D Summer washer liquid :P

I think he has been ripped off. The 10k service should be around £100, 20k around £180 mark (these are still rip off prices but thats another topic). I have never paid more than £5 for an oil filter (from renault, bmw, vauxhall etc), the engine only holds 3.3 liters if I remember correctly, so they should at least have left him, a 1 liter top up bottle of oil. If I were you I would go back and question the extra charges, extras should only be done with the customers permission.

I assume the service was done at a Peugeot dealer.

I was quoted £78 and £90 respectively by my 'local' Toyota dealers (30 miles away). For convenience I asked for a quote from the local Peugeot dealer (0.5mile away).............................£180 please!!!

Needless to say I took the hit on the petrol cost (an extra £5) and went to Toyota.

Best advise is to ring around before you commit, do not assume all dealers are the same.

I learnt never ever to take the first offer, especially where servicing is concerned!

Always go to two or more dealerships (Peugeot are easier than Toyota in this respect as there are more of them in the country) and get quotes from all of them and then play them off each other!

I saved almost £100 on the cost of a 2nd service for my Yaris doing this.

Walfice is right, at Toyota 10k is usually about £90-100, 20k is usually just shy of £200. Peugeot probably will charge more for servicing, it's how they make their costs back (remember, they sell the 107 much cheaper than Toyota sells the Aygo) but almost £200 for a 1st service is quite ludicrous!

An Aygo takes about 3.5litres of oil so you were ripped off there that's for sure. The windscreen wash fluid is not so bad to be honest but labour cost at £100 for just changing oil and consumables is a joke, if it was 45 minutes then that is £125 per hour .. it's not a Lexus Aygo is it ? ;)

Mine's going down the local independent for it's first service in 2500 miles.

Hold on .. I see you've got a 107 and not an Aygo ... hmmm, that's interesting you'd think Toyota would be more expensive than Peugeout wouldn't you?

Golly, an uglier car that smells of garlic and more expensive servicing ... zut alors mon amie!

Pug and Citroen are generally cheaper to buy, but the dealers know how to get cash from you when servicing.

The Pug 107 service charge was the same as my Audi! The Audi had done 19,000 miles so on a pence per mile basis the Audi was half the cost! Our Aygo first service was £105.

The OP should be straight back round to the dealer to query the amount.

As always call to check the price and confirm this when leaving the car. Also use other quotes to get a reduction. Car dealers are desperate for work at the moment.

Thanks for all your replies.

We've agreed a £50 refund which although still expensive, doesn't seem quite as bad.

He'll be joining me at the local independent garage from now on - I've convinced him that he will still have his warranty and residuals will be just the same.

The people on this forum are ace :D

Sorry for the confusion - I have an Aygo (being the family member with taste) but my brother has 107 (he wanted yellow....) and took it to Peugeot for servicing - I just knew the people here would be the best to advise me. :)

Yeah whip his butt into getting several quotes before jumping with the first offer! A few friends had the same car and tried this there was about 150£ diff in prices for the exact same car.

Congrats on the rebate for you bro ! :)

For the first service none of the car manufactures actually do very much, you could easily do it yourself except they have you by the balls over the warranty so you have to have it done somewhere.

Once the warranty has expired I see no reason at all to got to the main dealer for this sort of car. They are simple devices and no real specialist knowledge is needed.

It's actually against EU law for a manufacturer to insist their franchise services your car in order to maintain manufacturers' warranty. You can servise it anywhere that is VAT registered Garage (dealer's warranty is a different story).

Toyota wanted £85 for fuel filter that I eventually bought from Citroen for £37.24. However Toyota say they wont fit Non-toyota parts (even though the Aygo, 107 and C1 are made under the same roof)

I supply the oil to the Garage, so I am assured of what I'm getting and I get the left-overs

FYI- The Spark plug service inveterval goes from 40,000 miles to 60,000 miles if you switch to Iridium spark plugs

Hi there,

I am getting my first service on my aygo next week, and they told me it would be £115. Does any one know if that is just for labour? I am going to top my washer fluid up before i go so they can't charge me for things like that. Is there anything else anyone would suggest to keep the price down?

Cheers

See if you can buy the Toyota 3-year service plan before you get this done. It's only £279 for the first 3 services and should be honoured at ALL Toyota garages.

Here's a link for an earlier thread : http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=86568

You may need to push the dealer to sell you the plan or buy it from another dealer though as they like to sell their own plan for around £400 instead.

£115 should be the all in price. Call them to confirm and tell them you dont want to be paying for extras such as washer fluid top up etc. Ask them if that's their best price too.

If you can find some oil of the correct spec cheaper than Toyota charge then this is usually the most expensive item after the labour.
