Tiptonic Gearbox Fault

First off let me say sorry for my first posting being a question. I'm not a MR2 owner myself but my sister in law is and has asked for my advice so i've come in search on here. I hope you dont mind.

So, Hello and here we go.

She has a 70,000 mile 2001 model MR2 with the Tiptronic gearbox which has developed a fault in the gear selection.

Sometimes it will shift , other times it will not.

Been in to a Toyota garage and it's showing a PO780 fault which is shift switch issue.

My question is really a general What are these boxes like ? They say these are repairable but from my thoughts your normally better going for a straight recon box. I'm in to my Audi's as i'm a family man and i generally stear clear of audi auto's for reliability issues.

Any thoughts would help no end please

thanks
