Hi All

I have just had my DMF done along with the clutch. Toyota wanted £1800 this seems like the standard 'rip off' so i took it to a specialist gearbox garage locally that i trust, they did both for me for £950 all in, I had it back the same day as well.

The guy's in the garage told me they did loads of these, so really these DMF's are not up to the job. Now my Rav4 4-D4 is an 03 with 42k only on the clock, has had one lady owner from new, and has every service required from new by Toyota.

So, Toyota have refused to contribute to this so i am going to take them to court through the small claims route, in my opinion this DMF is 'not fit for purpose'

I will keep you informed.

Mike

I am never sure why the gender of the owner makes a difference in any vehicle description. Surely the way the car has been treated is not gender specific.

The DMF issue is not down to who last drove the vehicle...this DMF issue with the older RAV's will at some point go....mine did at about 65k...bang, clank and a then a metallic rattle, then no drive :( ...

Look HERE as the photo's of the DMF our mine..and the big hole in it caused by it's inside exploding out...taking the clutch and clutch plate as well...I still have the parts if needed as proof of damage.

Did anyone see the Watchdog item on the Nissan Navara's exploding engine...they took the same stance of upping the warranty as Toyota, also took the measure of not telling anyone of their customers about this...hmmm ;) ;) bit like Toyota...Anchorman had to do a lot of poking around to get them to admit to this and even get them to issue an official Toyota note on this issue. It left me out of pocket last year just before Christmas, not nice but needed to get mine fixed. Like you boilerman I got mine fixed at an independent I have used before and got some of the parts at retail cost, they also used an OEM DMF.

Any evidence or help, just give us a pm or ask on-line...your get more than a few willing to help you out....

It was a load of con rods. :D. Yep, Nissan's approach was strangely familiar.

I don't want either problem and I've the greatest sympathy for anybody who experiences one of them, but if I had to choose, I'd take the DMF failure thanks. Of course, neither is acceptable.

Hi all

O dear, sorry about the 'one lady owner' i suppose i was just trying to get across what a fantastic condition the car is in (apart from the DMF) but i do admit 'most' lady drivers don't thrash the ***** out of their vehicle !! anyway got a letter from Toyota with the usual blurb, but i am encouraged by this paragragh.

'In exceptional circumstances, we may contribute towards repair costs as a gesture of goodwill but before doing so we would consider whether the car was owned from new,if it has a full service history within Toyota network, the nature of the problem, if an extended warranty has been purchased, if the repair work is being carried out in the Toyota Centre but most importantly, whether the supplying Toyota Centre are keen to recognise their customer's loyalty to the brand. Goodwill payments are not obligatory.

I have written back, lets see what comes !!
