Hello, I'm hoping this is going to be the third and final issue I have with my Rav (for a while anyway!!)

When I am pulling away (especially on a hill or any slight slope) I go into kangaroo mode and feel like I'm going to stall, the noise comes mainly from the back as though the rear wheels are not 'following', I had a friend in the car with me who assured me that it was not me driving badly :driving: and mentioned that it might be clutch springs or rear coils??? does that sound right & is it a big job?

Can anyone shed any light??

Thanks

Michelle

Hi Michelle

There are some bushes on the rear axle that allow it to become "loose fixed" (as they used to say in the motor trade - like a bulls crown jewels!). It means when you set off you get a clunk as the slack is taken up.

Bothy will advise you more when he comes on but you should probably go to a garage and get it checked out - I don't think it's such a big job.

Regards

morning all - just out of hospital after getting some bits shoved back into where they belong.....naw ah mean the tummy hernias and not further south!! Banned from driving for a few days as the twisting to get in the bucket seat will teat the stitches.

On this I think you need to get the rear bushes checked out, and the rear diff mounts. If they are ok then get the remaining mountings checked and the engine mounts...they wear as well.

I'd start at the back ones though - they last about 80,000 miles and they all seem to go at the one time. I'm waiting to hear about whether I can get polybushes from the USA.

good luck

Its a fairly low mileage so theres nothing much - just the usual checks on brakes/brake pipe condition.

One thing which might be worth checking - more due to age - is the petrol tank breather pipe. This runs up alongside the filler pipe in the inside of the rear wheel arch next to the petrol cap funnily enough. The pipes are shielded by a plastic shroud cover but its not sealed so allows water and muck in. Mine was well corroded resulting in petrol smells and when the cover was taken off I had to replace the filler pipe as well - I replaced it with petrol plastic hose and replaced the breather tube with reinforced petrol hose. However, if your car has been in south of England then it won't have suffered the tons of salt put on the roads as up here.

Check the passenger front footwell that its dry.

And the cambelt should be changed every 60,000 miles.

other than routine maintenance, the car will happily last another 80k+ miles.

Let me re-phrase it......They USED to be popular before Bothy bought up the worlds supply of 3 door RAV's, Misshelle must have had hers in the garage when the Bothmeister was scooping them all up ;)

You be careful Bothy, all that laughing will have you cringing later, when the painkillers wear off. I had a Hernia op last year.......I've got the scare to prove it   see...........I can laugh now

Check it has the twin tipped spark plugs in, I cant remeber the part number but there were two types the later models had the twin tipped and it reduces the hesitation at low speeds and low throttle.

I remember changing mine because the wife complained
