Previa Will Not Start

Hi I am new to the site i have a 1993 2.4 petrol automatic. it recently started to struggle to start with a lot of clunking then it would not start at all and when i turned the ingnition it gave a whining noise so i have changed the starter motor however it is still the same does anybody have any idea's of what this could be. Any help would be much appreciated as i think this could get very expensive.

Are you 100 % sure the starter motor is engaging. If so you will need to take off the tappet cover and see if the cam chain is still attached and that the cam shafts are turning.

If not it could be your flywheel/torque converter or worse I am afraid.

yeah thanks for this tried to turn the engine 1/4 turn it then tried to start but with a lot of grinding and scraping so i think its the fly wheel it's far to advanced for me so gonna have to get a mechanic out thanks for your reply.
