Rav4 Off Road Enhancement

I'm running a 2.0L TD Townace at the moment but it's too big and thirsty.I need decent off-road capability and am looking at Rav4 diesel up to £5000.Any help or advice on which model to buy would be a great help. Also can suspension be raised and off-road tyres fitted as I'm on forest tracks during work, but needing reasonable fuel economy on road.I'm completely new to Rav4,and off-road but I know the Townace can't hack it.

good afternoon young sire and a welcome to the forii

I was just eating some macaroni cheese in hospital when you posted so apologies for the lateness.

I can't comment on the diesel, but in general, you can source parts for the RAV on various websites of 4x4 parts suppliers. Anything is possible but just depends what you want to spend. On tyre size, I think you'll find the size is limited by the size of the wheelwell......on full lock you will get rubbing unless you use spacers. The suspension can be uprated and no doubt you could get new springs for it. With the RAV wishbone style, taking ruts is not as good as things like the landrover with its cart-spring suspension and axles. So it depends on how rough a road you want to get along.

Have a look at some of the USA websites where the RAV is sold. Also Australia.

Good luck,

Off road tyres and good fuel economy dont go hand in hand, there is a trade off in terms of good off road capability OR good fuel consumption. The Hilux is more suited to off road work, but it depends on your own personal needs
