Engine 'growl' When Releasing The Accelerator

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have the 2006 Corolla Verso diesel with the 2.2 engine and the CAT system.

This is the 1st Diesel I have owned.

I have recently noticed a problem when I releasee the accelerator when I am slowing down.

It....growls!!

I makes a low noise that sounds like a dog growl.

This is intermittent which is why I suspect an issue.

I think there is an problem but as this could be a characteristic of a diesel engine, I would like others opinion before I take it to the garage.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Cheers,

md

How long have you had the car?

Has it ever made the noise before i.e it only started recently?

You could just go into any Toyota dealer and ask them to start up another diesel Verso so you can listen for any difference.

Does the sound happen with the clutch up or down?

Does the sound happen when the car is above or below 2,000 revs (as this is roughly where the turbo kicks in).

Sorry for all the questions but it will help to narrow things down.

please don't apologise, I appreciate you getting back!

OK.......

I bought it 2 months ago (it was used when I bought it and I don't think it had the noice then. It has 19K on the clock) Its under warrenty for 1 year.

The sound happens when the clutch is down.

I think the revs are below 2000K when it happens.

I can take it back but I wanted to make sure this is not normal as I am a bit of a novice when it comes to cars!!

I,ve just had a new turbo fitted to my T180 and have noticed a similar noise has appeared, it's back at the Toyota Garage so I'll let you know what they say.

Just got the car back the noise turned out to be a loose airbox, no noise now.
