Air Flow Meter

I was reading in another forum, that there is power to gain, by adjusting the air flow meter on the 3S-FE engine. In fact several posters claim to have gained power and inproved mpg by adjusting the air flow meter, so the engine was running more lean, as it was running too rich before.

What i'm wondering is, how many horsepower did these engine, that respondet to the modification, have before the mod. I allways had the impression that my car was pretty economical for a 2.0 engine, which is in contradiction to the AFM being set too rich. Also, a lot of the older 3S-FE engines, from the Camry and Carina had less power than the 128 hp of my Avensis. After the introduction of the first cat. the poweroutput dropped to around 120 hp.

Anyone of you guys tried this? If so, do you know if only the older engines respond with increased power.?
