Tickover

Hello

I've owned a new RAV4 xtr 2.2 diesel for the past two months and I am very pleased with it but I have one question I would like some help with if possible.

Lately when the weather got a bit colder I noticed that with the heater blower on the tickover stayed at about 1000rpm and when I turned the fan off tickover returned to 750rpm but when the air temp went to 10 degrees or above the heater blower did not effect the tickover it was constantly 750rpm.

Has anyone else noticed this and is it nomal.

Regards

Alan

Hi mate, mine does the same. As far as I know its perfectly normal, it does this during cold weather

to take some of the load (de-mister, heater etc) when engine is idling. Other wise it would

put a lot of strain on your Battery.

Yes, I've noticed this, it also dose it if you ask the heaters to increase the temp by a large amount. It dose it alot less once the engine temp is up to normal. Mike I just notice your user name, I rode Trials until 2004. are you riding in the welsh champ round on 16th nov, what bike have you got.

Hi Mike

My name's Alan and at the moment I'm out of action due to breaking my clutch finger in two places back in June during a trial - I'm still unable to pull the clutch in so I am going to miss the Neath round - I'm confined to observing at the moment.

I have a Beta Rev 3 and am a member of Vale of Towy what club were you with?

Regards

There are several occasions when the ECU will go to "idle up" when the ambient temperature is low. Older models had a manual throttle to compensate.

As Dave says - no problem.

Trials Cymru and then Merthyr MC, Ask Martin Jones for some tips on riding without using the cluch, he stoped me from being the Clubman champion for 3 years running, and he's got part of his finger missing !! hope your riding again soon, maybe on the new Beta. Mike Bevan
