Just got a cold air intake for a 04 corolla and after the install we had trouble with the mass airflow sensor and now the car won't go past 3000 rpms.

what is the problem?

Sounds like the car has gone into "Limp" mode.

Check all wiring to your MAF sensor then disconnect your Battery for 30mins to clear the error code and try again

Which intake did you get and what version of Corolla do you have??

it was a no brand intake from eBay, and the version of the corolla is the ce

we disconnected the batt to reset the ecu but there was no development from that. we also tried cleaning the maf sensor. and nothing from that either.

It's probably not the MAF itself, but the wires going in to the back of it. Check all the wires in the back (it'll probably be the black one furthest left) I had the same problem and had to extend the wires to the MAF. It's been covered a few times on here if you have a search.

Your engine has got its self in to safe mode. It's to stop any damage happening.

It's still driveable just not above 3000rpm.

If you are in the AA call them out and they may be able to reset the ECU (they couldn't re-set mine)

If your not in any breakdown service then it's £80 and a trip to Mr T's Garage for the Re-set.

If one of the wires is snapped that goes into the MAF Sensor or it is damaged no amount of ECU resetting will fix the problem. The 3k limit is the full fat limp mode not the VSC/TCS warning light one, as mentioned a few of us have had this problem.

Ahh :o be carefull ...

2001 onwards petrol cars will be OBD2/ EOBD systems thus disconecting Battery will NOT clear a fault code/error in system.

In view of what has happened I'm a little supprised there has been no mention of the 'mil light' lighting up?
