Petrol Range On Verso 2.2

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am puzzled. 6 weeks ago I bought the Verso 2.2 diesel engine and from what I have read the tank takes 55 litres. I have a habit of filling the car up when the low petrol light comes on...i noticed that everytime i could only put 40 to 41 litres..Therefore if i do the maths i have another 15 litres to go , enough to go another 200 km. I also checked the "range" meter on the car and it told me i had about 20-30 kms to go...

So either the tank does not contain 55 litres or Toyota play it extremely safe when it comes to the low petrol range....Anyone experienced the same thing ?

Any adverse effects if you run out of petrol on a diesel car ?

thanks

Unfortunately some time ago the original the Corolla Verso forum was merged with the Corolla forum, shortly after that a new Verso forum was started but all the old Verso post were not moved over.

On the old forum this has been discussed a number of times, your experience seems to be shared by all. The fuel gauge and the board computer are indeed very “safe”.

The best theory I heard was that they are adjusted for 5 litres less that the tank capacity, and it also seems possible to get about an extra 5 litres in the tank i.e. due to the filler pipe capacity etc.

I have the petrol version which has a 60 litre tank and have run to below empty on the gauge and with the computer stating 0 KMs left, and have still not managed to get more that 52 litres in the tank. However all this proves is that the gauge and computer are pessimistic and that my tank is at least 52 litres. I am not prepared to run out of fuel to see what happens.

Any adverse effects if you run out of petrol on a diesel car ?

First, please do not put petrol in a diesel, horrible things can happen! ;)

I have no experience with diesel, but I remember reading somewhere that if you run out of fuel you have to bleed the fuel system to get the air out. On some systems you have to do this by hand on others it is automatic. I think it is probably described in the hand book.

Hope this helps,

Andy
