  1. 1. which direction should i take the rolla?

    • Keep it FWD and live with lack of traction
      2
    • go 4WD
      12
    • rip the engine out and throw it in the back and go RWD

You missed out an option Lee

turn the engine 90* and keep it at the front and use it to drive the rear wheels - that would be my choice.

Must be the most expensive and difficult to do but that's never stopped you before

i think 4WD, RWD probs not very good for the car, itll b too heavy at the rear if u put the engine in the bak and its a short base car so itll spin out easily. 4WD = more traction and quicker around bends and quicker 0-60 dnt need to worry bout wheel spin

the only thing that leans me away from 4WD slightly is it kinda numbs the car off slightly 4WD is great for launch but transmission losses do take their toll.

also a mid engine RWD rolla has never been done (to my knowledge).

did look at that John but the lack of a reliable transmission makes it a difficult one. the only one that will fit the engine without custom bellhousing is the beams IS200 one but apparently they are made of chocolate.

decisions decisions...

I'm sure you could get a Supra box to fit - just need a bigger hammer mate :D

4WD puts you in the same area as EVO's, Ford COSWORTHS and SCOOBY'S etc. - For less money you could buy an excellent example of any of these.

So -

Personally I would keep it FWD - surely you must be one of the fastest FWD cars out there ;) !

As for RWD yep got to agree with others :Turn engine '90' and go that way - parts cars ... ... thats easy: 1st/2nd generation Celicas.

this is the dilema.

as the car is used for drag racing it needs to be competitive in its class. 4WD is full of very potent cars ATM.

RWD does have some quick ones but as a RWD setup im confident that i can get it well into the 10's.

FWD has 10sec cars too but not many. will do some traction mods for next year and see how we go.

If its for drag racing.. Spray it matt Black and Chuck a mighty Supra engine in the back and get some gurt Hoosiers for RWD!! That would be absolute nutts :D :P

I reckon, stick with the 3S GTE, but fit it mid-section, 'cos what everyone really wants to see is an evolution Group B stylee 4WD AE92 :thumbsup::thumbsup:

lol that would be mad.

been doing a bit more digging and the MR2 has a smaller wheelbase than the rolla. rolla is 2430 and the MR2 is 2400 so would be like an MR2 handling wise only the rolla is about 200KG lighter.

i voted put engine in back an do RWD, think that would be best for drag racing, as the weight of the engine on the rear will help get traction on the rear wheels, 4WD would be great for off the line but you would loose power thru that an put weight on the car. but maybe you would need to put weight in the front to balance out but i'm sure you'll sort something out.

also rear engine, rear wheel drive you could also maybe have some driftin fun in that B)

yeah, we were at york raceway a few weeks ago. ian from TR&D lost out to an MR2 running similar power off the line it was close but the Mr2 walked away when it hit 3rd gear. :o

depends on your budget matey,

if you want to go for the extreme way then keep the engine and everything as it is and the add another engine in the back,

4WD plus a shed load of smiling B)

I think you should bring it to the Rolling Road Day so we can see it on the Dyno and then give you some suggestions! ;)
