Was The 1999 1.3 Engine Any Good?

I notice that the early 1999 Yaris 1.3L engine looked the same as the 1.0L one. Then not long after around March 2000 the 1.3L engine changed to what I guess is the same engine that remained until at least 2005.

In the Autocar article the first Yaris 1.3 was very highly geared at 24.4mph per 1000rpm.

Does anyone know what the gearing on the later 1.3 was or is? and also if the early engine is OK or one to be avoided?

Edit this is the 1.5, I believe the 1.3 looks the same?

1SZ-FE is the 1.0L and 2SZ-FE is the 1.3L one

and I see that the Daihatsu Sirion has a 102bhp version of the 1.3L engine code K3-VE

the older 2nz-fe are in the jap built 1.3 yaris and the 2sz-fe are in the french built engines. they are both very good engines. im sure the put out roughly the same power aswell. they still use the 2sz-fe in the new yaris.
