06 Avensis 1.8 T3X Auto.

When accelerating from cold gear changes from 1 to 3 occur about 2100 revs then it gets noisy and stays in 3rd sometimes until about 4500 revs then changes to 4th and drops back to 2800 revs.Seems to be a lot of a increased noise when it is in 3rd changing to 4th.When warmed up everything changes around 2200 revs. Any ideas?

Tried it yesterday and accelerating gently the revs went up to 5000 in 3rd and still not changing.Took a video of the speedo and tacho showing it going up to 80MPH at 5000 revs and showed it to Toyota. They reckoned I must have been using Kickdown. Funny the video shows me accelerating from 0 to 60 in 30 seconds. They don't seem to want to do anything about it. The only place they tested it was up a long hill so it stayed in 3rd anyway and by the time they got to a flat the box was warmed up and working normally.

Most 4 speed automatics won't go above 3rd gear to assist the engine in warming up until a certain temperature is reached then all 4 gears can be used normally. Sounds perfectly normal to me.

This was OK until a few weeks ago and didn't do this. As it is it will let me accelerate moderately until the revs are dangerous in 3rd. It let me go up to 80MPH and then I backed off.
