Rear Window Winding Mechanism

Hi :(

The cable on the rear window winding mechanism broke, now the window can't be winded up or down. I tried to open the mechanism but it seems to be one of those "can't repair, have to replace" items. Is it possible to only replace the cable or does the whole mechanism need to be replaced? I really don't feel like paying for a new unit so if any one has a used item please get in contact. It's for the right door. In the mean time I'm going to secure the window with a bolt.

Thanks

Exactly the same thing happened to mine. As a temporary fix I opened up the panel on the side, grabbed the wire and pulled the window up. Keep it very tight then lock off the cable. I think I might have jammed it in between the winder mechanism and the door before tightening the bolts on to it. So far I haven't replaced it. I also took the internal handle off so no one messes with it or thinks it's there when it isn't. You might want to explain that's what you've done before you freak new passengers out, especially if you also lock the door :)

Thanks. I'll try to remember to take my mask and scythe from the back seat when having passengers :)

I too was thinking of a temporary fix for winter. I rarely use the rear window so it's not too much of a nuisance.
