had the stearing wheel on full lock today as i was parking up and as i was turning in there was this noise that kinda sounded like thuding or that there was something trying to grip and it kept slipping/jumping. it did it a few times straight after each other.drove the car round in a full corcle and it did the same thing. its done the same thing when i reverse out of my drive on full lock. any idea if this is the norm as obviously i dont have it on full lock very often

Its is normal to have a straining sound when the wheel is turned fully as your pushing the pump as hard as it will go. Its nothing to worry about.

id check the driveshaft condition see if the gaitors are burst or anything like that could have caused damage to the bearings inside maybe

the yaris had a recall on driveshafts because they were noisy when turning but it was a loud clicking noise that could be herd

thanks for that. yeah i guess u could call it a straining noise feels like its pulling and kinda juddering as the car is moving

the cars 8 months old and was in the garage for other a couple ofweeks ago.they had it up on a lift thing (sorry dont know the exact wording) and had a good look underneath while carrying out the other work so i guess if there were an issue its something they would have seen as the noise has been there long b4 that

because they were noisy when turning but it was a loud clicking noise that could be herd

yeah its not a clicking noise more like a judder, thudding like somethng is slipping.

The yaris does not have a power steering pump.................It is an electrically power assisted steering

On full lock the tyres tend to scratch for grip at low speed, the sound is the tyre treads protesting as they struggle for grip

If you are really worried get your dealer to check it out for you

thanks. yeah it is at low speed as you would expect and id get really dizzy otherwise lol im not really worried as having it on full lock isnt something you do very often and im sick of taking the car in for things lately anyway. had the squeaking brakes fixed 2 weeks ago so give it time and im sure they will be at it again. not sure if i heard a squeak today. you get paranoid and start hearing things lol so if/when it goes in again for that ill ask them.

Yes ....like most small hatchbacks these days a small electric motor is attached to the steering column and provides power assistance to the steering...............It is supposed to be more economical as it does not drain power from the engine as much as a power steering pump.

Hi there...

I'd not had my Yaris long before it started making a similar noise but only when I was turning right on full lock.

Took it into Mr T and it was the drive shaft and they fixed it no problem :)

Yep thats right :)

Id didnt take much to fix it, and it was a warranty job too so cost me nothing.

ok thanks. ill guess ill just wait until my brakes start playing up again or wait for its service and ask the independent to have a quick check and then take it into mr t as its not really an issue unless its on full lock.

what was the actual problem it had.what was causing it? serious if i dont get it looked at?

The problem was the drive shaft, i dont know the technical details as I'm not really clued up on that sort of thing :) but it was knocking, making a banging noise which didnt sound right. And again, only on full lock. My reasoning was that it shouldnt be making that noise so ill get it checked. I dont think it was serious but no problem is to start with, it would have probably gotten worse but I didnt wait around to see :) its up to you really but personally, I dont think Id like to wait around and see what happens, especially when youre not 100% sure what it is :) xx
