Hi all,

Just bought my first toyota today. Reason being, am goin onto taxi's and have been assured these cars have super realibilty.

Just a few questions really, the car has FSH but is due one now. I have A4 tdi at home, but id just like to confirm with you boys (and girls) what will need doing at the 70,000mile service.

I like to look after my cars, and belive me am sick of spending money on the A4, so could someone please maybe briefly outline what i should change at the 70,000mile service.

Would I be able to ring up my local toyota garage, give him/her the reg number and they confirm what work was carried out on the last service?

On the 50k service, the timing belt was done, and some clutch fluid changed?.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

So your Cat failed at 75k

iv had the cambelt and tensioners done at 50k miles. and shocks are fine on my car, but I will be putting aside money for wear and tear as the car is going to be on taxis.

I checked all the lights, and the engine management light doesnt come on. the car is now on 70k miles, but am suprised your cat failed at 75k KM!

So your advising to keep an eye out for cambelt, cat and shocks. I will defo do that. but am most worried about the diesel pump failing, very expensive i heard. Have u ever come across these cars with any other common faults?

thanks for your repy.

I wouldn't sweat to much over car, in general these cars are very reliable, thats why they are the perfect taxi (of course they can break down like any other make ) but just look out for wear & tear items ie: tyres, brakes, exhaust system & if your using bad roads FR/RE Antil roll bar links & bushes can have a hard time of it.

You will probably here about oxygen sensors & cats, but if is not broken why worry. Just think of all the money you will save over the Audi with its multi -link front suspension ( 8 seperate wishbones ) & over rated reliability.

Look after your car & it will look after you. I carry out full service every 10,000 miles on my car rather than the 20,000 miles suggested by Toyota & most of all only use quality oils & regular change of the fuel filter should keep you going for miles.

Thanks for the replies boys.

Yeah, I understand they are a car after all, and parts will fail.

The car has no problems cold starting, it doesnt overheat and to be honest, i paid over book value because it was in good condition. FTSH, cambelt done at 50k. reciepts to show some of the work, but book fully stamped. Not a single dent or scratch and all electronics work as they should, apart from rear windscreen wiper, it completes its move (wiping the rear windscreen) and on the way back to resting position, stops short of where it should stop, and after 1sec starts again and stops where it should. so on the way back, it does 90%. stops, and then completes the remaing 10% (if that makes sense!)

I have basic understanding of diesel engines, and will change the fuel filter once a year with the MOT. (on taxi's its also once a year, so when thats due i'l change it then). I usually dont bother with glow plugs until i have problems starting cold, but probably do them every 50,000miles.

Car is gona get serviced 2mrw, 70,0000mile service. just gona do oil + filter, and air filter.

And yeah, audi, to be honest iv spent in the region of £2500+ on parts and service. The car was reliable, and is currently on 185,000 FSH. but parts are expensive, and Beagh1958, your totally right, that front suspension was expensive. £700 for front suspension, and they were copies!

Also another question, do parts from carcraft, Halfords, brakes international, basically copies, fareup against original toyota parts. What am looking for is which will last longest, and best value for money.

So for example, toyota may quote be £40 for Brake discs (example), and i can source copies at (example) £25, which would be worthwhile?. Am i right in assuming toyota parts are better quality? Bkaz with the audi, it wasnt always the case and they deserve the title Stealers! but i still love it and am gona drive that into the ground, just less mileage as toyota is main car now.

and irishjay, how u doing fella. this taxi stuff has cost me a lot to start up, (21yr taxi driver = mega insurance premiums), but hopefully be worth it.

igormus, thanks for the post, but i only ever use Shell diesel as i am cardholder.
