Ok toyota dealer checked my avensis last week as i said there was a rattle coming from it , i also told them about my excessive loss of coolant (2 litres in 10 days!!!) so picked the car up they said one injector was faulty and needed replaced and they would ring me when the part came in , they also said that they couldnt find a coolant leak and done a pressure test and it came up fine saying there was no pressure loss , when i got home i opened the bonnet and noticed a hissing noise coming from the cap it appereaed to be fully closed but i twisted it some more and it tightnend up , i was hoping that this was the problem , today i had to add a litre of coolant!!!!!on monday MR t main dealer rang me and said that the injector was in and i was booked in on monday , also they said that TOYOTA GB had rang them and suggested to them that they do a full head gasket check as this was a common fault in the 2.2 d4d , they are going to carry this out on friday ,the temperature gague is staying at halfway everything appears normal , i might add that my avensis now has 51k on it and i do a lot of miles so it should be out of warranty by xmas ,im going back to the dealers on saturday and if the head gasket seems to be working fine wot do i do????????im very tempted to say look this isnt normal and im leaving the car here until the problem is sorted out there dosent appear to be any leaks the car is driving fine any other ideas??????????

1) head gasket

2) water pump

3) faulty coolant bottle and lid

any other suggestions or ideas i could take to MR T ????

Just an old fashioned idea but if you have time, drop your engine covers & lay large piece of cardboard under engine after a run & see if you have any clear signs of water dropping onto card.

If anything shows up following above checks at least you have something to go on. Also see below.

Or better still if you have access to Coolant Pressure Tester this tool should show up any leaks. Usually with exception of h/gasket.

Your car sounds crook i'm afraid.

hello

the gasket can be disclosed by a simple way -- to start the engine when the expansion tank lid is open. after accelerate the engine and to keep an eye inside the tank (at the same time) --> in case the gasket is broken then you'll see either bubbles or thin oil film.

in case your pump is faulty -- (i am not sure)-- each pump has a spesial check hole --> when mechanical seal got leak the coolant goes thru this hole and you can observe some traces inside the engine compartment. the similar traces are vissible under the expansion tank, if it is broken.

funny thing is, it didnt make these sounds on the test drive....

Am 3rd owner, 70,000miles. FSH.

Car didnt do a lot of miles in last 18months, sumat like 8,000miles as it was his 2nd car.

It's probably just a hole in the exhaust somewhere (hopefully?) but it is due a service so, hopefully maybe that'l help (gettin serviced on monday now)

it is understood - you can inspect all the exhaust line by your self and to see whether some lleaks are available.

are you sure the previous two owners have been servicing her regulary?

be noted - that diesel must to work and not to be kept in garage. the typical problem with injectors is that the internal loading spring (preliminary loaded by a screw) is compressed by assembly and this compressed condition (when the engine does not work ) remains and the valve opening pressure being degreased influencing on the spray jet - in other words the spring must to work on sine curve. the above is theory that must also be considered.

cheers

Hey, yeah got the car serviced today, toyota confirm that the car has FSH.

I had the car checked, and a local garage are saying its the flywheel/clutch. Gona get it checked from a toyota specialist 2mrw, and fingers crossed its just a loose nut somewhere, or sumat cheap to fix.......(but my late string of luck means it'l probably be a £3000 job, and then the car will blow up as soon as i get it fixed, and then i'l get mad and lose slight control of my bodily functions, and end up in the road ran over by a truck. probably)
