hi all,

new to this forum and toyotas so be gentle!

i have just taken delivery of my winter project, an L reg st202. now its an automatic and has a red button with some japanese writing above it by the gear stick/selector, my mechanic doesn't know what it is and i cant find any reference to it on the web, it is above the buttons named PWR and MANU. what does it do? i will try and post a pic when i get the chance.

It's so that you can move the gear shifter when the keys are not in the ignition, used when servicing.

There's an interlock that stops you shifting out of P if the keys aren't in the ignition. This is a bypass switch, usually used in conjunction with the brake pedal .

Handy!!

if i had known that last week it would have saved me the pain of starting her up to try and re-wire the stereo!!

should have guessed really, thinking about it!!
