Octane Recommendation

I have a 1997 Toyota Celica GT (automatic), and as everyone always says when asking about octane, read the manual.

I have read the manual, and it leaves me... unsatisfied. in the end it says for the GT use regular (87?), HOWEVER, for added performance, use mid-grade (89?).

now i am going on a decent drive tomorrow, and i would like to maximize my cars abilities, and as well get better gas mileage, and what not.

but im not looking for anything special out of it really.

where i live it is very hilly, and im a teenager, and drive as such (not an a-hole, just as a teenager). in other words, i typically get my car up to 3-4.5k before it *****s.

with the way i drive, will the higher octane help/ change anything/ do anything beneficial?

Oh, and on the trip, im going to be on a long highway, and probably sitting around 80-90 MPH for most of the trip.

price is not a big concern for me regular is 2.25/gal. and mid-grade is 2.30/gal. (depending on where i go).

any help would be great!

Best way to know is just try it :D

Personally, if the better gas is just 5 cents a gallon more, I would be using that without a doubt. In the UK, the premium gas is around 40-50 cents a US gallon more then regular gas.

Enjoy your drive

ohh wow, didnt know it was that much more expensive!

a while ago, i had a friend in Sweden who was paying 13K (karon? = Swedish dollar?) per gallon, with which he told me through exchange rate ended up being $4-5 USD. while i was only (only used loosely) $3.20 or so.

but i shall try mid grade and see what happens! ill update for other people who may have a similar issue.

K in Sweden would be Kroner ;) - in the UK, we pay about £4.50 an Imperial Gallon, which is around $5.50 a US Gallon right now
