Hi

Simple question = simple answer

I have just, today, bought a 2002, 5 door Rav4 and I asked the dealer to fit Toyota sidesteps to it, I don`t collect it until Thursday next week.

My question is:- Will the sidesteps obstruct the Jacking points either side of the vehicular ?.

The dealer has to order the steps so I still have until tomorrow miday to cancel the steps.

My wife has a 3 door 4.2 and the points are OK. When I've jacked it at the side before, I used the standard scissor jack. For 'proper' jacking, I've gone under the diff carrier with my big trolley job. I can't remember if I've jacked the front, but I'm sure it would be a doddle.

Help... will it or won`t it, please.........

Toyota sidesteps......should be no problem.

I can't imagine they would design them in such a way that made the car un-jackable.

The Toyota side steps on my better half's 4.2 don't prevent the use of the jacking points which are the front suspension cross member rear mounting for the front and the rear suspension arm for the rear - so you should have no problems.

I have the Chrome Bars rather then the Steps, but both use the same mounting places I am 99.999% sure.

I can - and have - used the standard supplied jack many times to lift up the car at the designated points for wheel replacement

buy yourself a lightweight trolley jack as wot i did. When you do need to use it, its quicker and easier and you look professional!!

Defo try for a light weight one. I've got a 3 ton trolley jack and I suspect that'e the weight of the actual jack...

A light one may be twice the price, but it will be sooooo worth it when you need to move it into an awkward position.

Bothy needs a 3 ton jack to lift the LR complete with spare parts.

Makes no difference. As a LR is involved, then inverse logic takes hold. Regardless of vehicle weight, the LR will stay firmly on the ground and the jack will quickly and completely bury itself, despite whatever it was standing on in the first place.

Aye - especially when the ground has been softened with diesel!!!

Bothys landrover has 2 jacks and carries 2 hefty alloy bridges, an assembly of other off-road equipment; a winch and a pair of gloves. The gloves help me to climb a large tree.

The jacks support the tree.

The winch loops up towards the tree.

And the 7 ton straps hook round the landrovers bumper then up to the hook, dangling from the tree.

The winch is then tightened whilst standing well back;

And then the landrover is finally thrown (trebuchet style?) towards the nearest garage.
