Rav4.2 D4d Power Steering Belt Adjustment?

Know how to adjust the power steering belt, I think, slacken off centre nut and then adjust tension via adjuster bolt then tighten back up centre nut.

However, what do you need to strip away to get at the pulley bolt? Had a look and it's mighty tight for space in there and there seems to be some sort of support bang in the way of the pulley bolt.

Thanks in advance Dave.

The easiest way to do this is:

Remove the driver side headlamp and front bumper.

Yes really this is it.

2000 & later models

1/Disconnect the Battery negative terminal.

2/Remove the grill

There are screws at the top and clips inside the back of the grill Pop up the centre pins of the button clips with a small screwdriver and lift out the clip.

Lift the grill out.

3/ remove the infill panel.

This just below the headlamp. At the sides you will spot two small lugs. Just use a small screwdriver and pushing these back gently, ease the infill forward. Both sides.

It can then be removed.

4/ Remove the screws holding the bumper in place.

There are two hidden just under the wheel arch cover. Remove the under panels on the engine.

The bumper will come lose and can be lifted out. Check for other screws/clips. Don't forget to disconnect fog lights if fitted.

5/ Remove the screws holding the headlamp in place.

Two on top one underneath.

Using a screwdriver eas the headlight out of the pivot point next to the grill

Unplug the wires to the headlight unit.

6/ you should now be able to see the centre bolt to the tensioner pully.

It's a 14 MM spanner. I think.

You might want to remove the reservoir support bracket to make it a bit easier.

Re-fitting is the reverse.

I think I've got it all however I can't guarantee this is totally correct. Proceed at your own risk. Hope it helps.

Thanks for taking the time out to post that!

Very helpful!

Will have a go later!

Can't believe that something with adjustment on it requires that much effort to get to!

Thanks again, Dave.
