Hi all,

I just wander if OBD2 protocol is supported on a corolla 2001. Have somebody tried cable like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OBD2-ELM327-USB-Scan...A1%7C240%3A1318

or like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELM327-USB-Diagnose-...A1%7C240%3A1318

to read and diagnose it? What software have you used and which cable from the above (if any)

Thanks

EOBD / OBD2

EOBD - European On Board Diagnosis/Diagnostics : was the European Directive / law for all cars meeting euroepan spec 2001 onwards; a follow on from 'Amercan' OBD2 directive...

OBD2 - On Board Diagnosis/Diadnostics 2nd Generation : was the 'second generation' OBD (1st gen in the 1980's had no standardization and was used only on injection fuelled cars usually - remember Carburettor was still 'king' then) a USA directive / law for all cars sold in North America from 1996 ...

Both are vertually the same ('P' Codes appear the same).

There are 'crossover years / models though - The Yaris which came out in '99 has EOBD even then (probably ready for 2001 European compliance). A lot of late 90's Fords are OBD2 due to being sold in USA.

If your Corolla has a '16 pin conector/interface' below steering column area then it will be EOBD compliant.

Why not get a 'hand held scanner' from Gendan etc?
