Electric Window Switchs

Just a question out of interest.

The drivers side window will operate without having to continually hold the switch down which one has to do for all the other windows from the drivers seat.

Is it possible to get the other windows to operate in the same way so one could, for example, open the front passenger window without having to hold the switch down?

This would make opening the windows safer when actually driving without a passenger.

Think this is a safety issue, but if you get drivers side switches and try to replace, there may some electronics/ programming

issues involved ? SHCM I'm sure will better advise.

I think you'll find its not just the switch but the fact that the switch as a 2nd function to run the window right down by triggering the ecu whatever to control the winder. You could alter things by installing a remote control activator to run in parallel with window switch so that it pretends its you holding the winder button down. Its not difficult electronically and can be done.

However, have you tried a brick?? Quicker and easier, but the rewinding is more problematical

Yep, something nagging at the back of my mind seems to be telling me that there is a mandatory requirement that if the window lift has auto up/down that anti trap must be present as well.

Certainly I know of at least two manufacturers that will not fit auto up/down window lift without anti trap.

I may be wrong, (and I can't be bothered to go and test it at the moment), but I think anti trap is only fitted to the drivers side window on the RAV. Usually that requires something like a hall effect device to monitor the window position and/or monitoring of the window lift motor current. That may not be present in the other windows. Probably a cost minimising thing.

Yes, it's fairly easy to lengthen a switch pulse to several seconds, to simulate you holding the switch (something like the ancient and nasty 555 timer IC would probably do it), but due to the above, I wouldn't do it or recommend it. Perhaps it would be OK if it was just on window open.

I don't know of any simple programming methods to get around it.

Thanks guys

As I said just a question of interest really.

Don't think I'll bother.

The simplest solution is to superglue the wife into the passenger seat with an electric dog collar. Push the button and will automatically open the window. The only downside to that is doing this automatically installs a back seat driver and overrides the sat nav. With no volume control.

Thanks, I was going to ask that question as well. Annoyed me on my 4.2 and will annoy me on my 4.3. The X3 has it  . Had wondered if it was possible to swap a Lexus part.
