Buying A Glanza !

Mate at work the other day told me he had a starlet on his drive that hes selling, hes not sure if its a glanza v or a starlet gt (he doesnt no much about cars ). but he said its got a 1.3 turbo engine and year is 1997 (I presumed the starlet gt was not made in 97 ? ). Anyway to the point he had it bought for his birthday for 500 quid !!, but being his forst car he had a bump in it since then he hasnt drove it, he said it needs a new bonnet, one head light and just a few other small things and no tax or mot he said i could have it for 300 quid

Worth buying ? will the bonnet etc be dear ?
