Nice deal for Toyota if you bought yourself a car while having Auris repaired :D

Why did they fuel up and wash you car, was it like "sorry for wasting your time"?

Best regards, Alex

Yes Alex, something for your inconvenience

Kingo

EDIT

A lot of people are asking about an ECU re-map. There isnt one, it is just a "Flash" update to update some injector software

They are working on my car now, I took it there today and will get back tomorrow. The ECU remap

will be done and also the whole MM-T gearsystem will be changed and updated!

Another happy customer here :yahoo:

Alex

Why " the whole MM-T gearsystem will be changed and updated! "

What the problem with it ?

I've been experiencing some lags when changing gears (even in manual mode),

the changes are taking too much time.

Also when the car is cold and I'm slowing down by slightly pressing the brake pedal

the car changes automatically to lower gear. In my situation it does it so that you

really feel the change, it's not a comfortable feeling at all.

Sometimes there is also the problem that my car doesn't change the gear at all even if

I accelerate slightly (not full throttle, not even half). The revs are about 5000

and the car keeps going on the same gear.

I faced the last problem almost as soon as I got the car (one year ago), but Toyota

didn't admit anything. The first problem was admitted and fixed with MM-T software update.

Now the situation has became same as it was then, maybe even worse than it was before those fixes.

There is also this second problem when lowering the gears (which I've never experienced before).

Luckily Toyota filanny admitted that there are serious problems with my car. That's why they're doing this!

Best regards, Alex

Hi Alex,

Sorry to hear you have so serious problem with the MMT - Gear that Toyota makes all the effort to convince us, before buying the Auris and after,

that this is the reliability revolutionary gear-transmition and we Shell adopted it " with full confident and guarantee " for many years ahead using our Auris".

To tell you the truth - Two year before , before I ordered my Auris , I was more sure and confident about it then to day - after I saw a lot of broblems rising while using the MMT Gear in the Auris.

You are lucky having these problems during the " Guarantee Period " so Toyota Dealer "changed the whole MM-T gearsystem and updated! " !

What happend if these problems will be in my Auris after 3 years - over the guarantee period.

How much it will cost me to "changed the whole MM-T gearsystem and updated! " .

I am very sure now that Toyota must extend the " Guarantee Period " over the 3 years to 7 years ( like the new Cid did in Europe and also in Israel ) to convince us once more that they are" standing behind" theirs reliability revolutionary gear-transmition= the MMT Gear.

Here in Israel there is a lot off disappointment from the Mmt-gear in the new Corolla ( 4 doors, 1600 made in Japan), therefore after many battles, the local dealers will starts, during 2009, to import this new corolla with the regular Automatic Gear .

By this dramatic decision and move of ours dealer. the price of the second-hand Corolla-mmt and the Auris-mmt will drop dramaticly very below the common price of Toyota-cars at all.

alex please report us how is the New Mmt gear now:

1.changing gear in manual up and down?

2.what are the speed it change the gear from 2th to 1th - is it still 18 Km/h?

3. any new behavior -good or bad?

Its a model code/vin thing. Your car wont be called in for it as its a proactive campaign, done whenever car is booked in for other jobs service etc.

You will receive a letter from Toyota where they'll tell you if there's something that should be done to your car.

I'm sure that full automatic model won't do any good for the Auris MM-T owners, and you're right:

people cannot trust this new gearsystem. Toyota hasn't tested or made enough research work to

get the system good enough. But I hope that you won't have to experience any big losses of money

because of some serious problems with your car after the guarantee period is over. I know that it's really

stressful situation and it can take lots of money and energy to sort thing out!

I will get my car back tomorrow and will definitely write a report about how is it working and tell you about

those things you asked for in your message :)

Best regards, Alex

Yes, I understand you my friend. I just mean that even if it's Corolla,

many will choose it instead of Auris because it's full automatic model.

I've been talking to many people here in Finland who don't know which

to take, Corolla or Auris, and I'm sure there's same situation in every

country. So in this case gearbox will be big + for Corolla.

By the way, i have had a trip to Bristol from London since the remap and the car is definitely more responsive. By this i mean it feels like there is less lag below 2000 revs. Can anyone else confirm this or am i feeling some placebo effect? Also the car just simply drives better across the rev range...

I hope those of you who have had the remap done also feel the same, those of you who works for MR.T please enlighten us.

Cheers.

Is this ECU re-map from a past recall/customer satisfaction campaign or am I likely to be charged for this re-map.

You see, I too have had the letter for the steering column and am waiting for the letter for the drive shaft. Might as well get them done together along with re-map if needed.

Will I need to actually ask them to do the re-map or will they automatically do it. Sorry if these are silly questions but I have never actually done a recall/customer satisfaction campaign on any of my previous cars.

Regards............

There will be NO charge for a re-flash, you shouldnt need to ask for it to be done. It is based on a chassis number range so your car will be checked whenever it goes in next. It is a Customer satisfaction campaign, not a recall of any description and nothing to worry about. You will not get a letter from Toyota about this. The re-flash is not designed to give you a boost in power, but the car may feel more responsive to drive at first

Thanks Kingo , I contacted and booked in for steering and re-map. Indeed they did automatically mention it. But I wasn't on the list for a new L/H driveshaft. Yet!

And the £15 worth of free juice, well that's just above and beyond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's all about your VIN number, if your not in the range, your car is not affected ;)

No that's just true customer service that the other car companies just don't aspire to and never will.

I've been treated like that since 1991 and 7 Toyotas later I still am.My wife sometimes even gets flowers.

If you buy a car over lunch time and have travelled more than about 30 miles lunch is even provided.

Mmm, I'm gonna have to disagree on your last statement, as I travelled over 40miles to buy my Auris and was there from 11am - 3:20pm. This included test drives in a few cars and then the haggling then the paperwork. And all I got was free coffee.

But i understand what you are saying, that Toyota Customer service is well superior to a lot of manufacturers out there.

I'm not saying lunch is a 'Toyota' item but my local garage does it for customer relations. They do a lot of business outwith their own locale with people who do not want to deal with the big city dealers who frankly are hit or miss depending upon the individual salesperson you encounter.

I depends of your card ID. You can check the 3 maintenance jobs details here:

http://www.techdoc.toyota-europe.com/TomsCabs.aspx?

If you have you card ID you can actually check if you apply for the job or not. The ID is a full alphanumeric sequence in front of the right seat (passager seat here). In the PDFs the number is split in 3 numbers.

Mine only applied for the steering column which still makes noise anyway... Here all they gave us was a Toyota Polar blanket :P I would appreciate the fuel much more.

I booked wife's Auris 1.6 Petrol for its first service this Saturday and they will sort out the steering too.

Just had the steering column recall done last week and i'm very happy with the service recieved. I was going to have to pay for a courtesy car but when i arrived it wasnt there so they gave me another free of charge.

Also they had added £15 of fuel when i went to pick it up!

Overall i'm very pleased with how i have been treated.

Big thank you to Arnold Clark Toyota, Aberdeen!

  • 10 months later...

Hi

I had the steering wheel recall check back in November 2008 by toyota. I was told my car is not affected. However, for the past 6 months, i have been hearing a constant snapping sound when making left turns. The snap occurs at every turn. I have gone in several times to my local toyota dealer regarding this and they said it was nothing.

I then visited STURGESS dealer for a 2nd opinion. They said my steering column needs replacing URGENTLY and were shocked it has got to such a state. I have been booked in for Monday. Apparently the wheel could have literally dropped off whilst i was driving!

My trust in toyota has totally gone. They cannot even fix a rattle for gods sake. With STURGESS i have found that rattles go for good. Not like when toyta does it. Really happy with my new found dealer! :)
