Hi

PLEASE REPLY ON YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS SUBJECT

SHOULD I CONTACT MY TOYOTA DEALER ?

I have a Toyota Auris 1.6 TR, it is now about 15 months old and has done

about 13,000 + miles

1st issue

the Rear wheels are getting dirty with brake dust real quick whilst the front

alloys are still pretty clean.... the brakes on both the front and rear have been

changed on warranty due to a couple of problems before

Should I tell the dealer about this ? does anyone think there may be a problem

with the brakes that is worthy of toyota checking on the warranty ??

2nd issue

i now feel that 10,000 miles plus the car isn't handling very well, and has quite a bit

of body roll ( hope this is not a tyre issue ) is anyone else feeling the same way

or does anyone think there could be an issue with the car

I am looking forward to hearing feedback from you... The more reply's the better

regardless of detail

Stuart

Never heard of brake dust more at the rear than the front as most of the stopping power is at the front!

With handling, how do you mean?.. if you are used to a rollerskate like an MR2 and then get into something higher and softer you expect body roll, are you saying it's getting worse? What would you say was a good handling car?

Tyre width has little impact on body roll,

It is more to do with centre of gravity, ARBs and spring rate.

You should definitely mention the brake dust building faster on the rear, that is not normal and could be a sign that the rear brakes are needing adjustment or are sticking on.

Does the car roll freely enough? Park on a flat surface, put in neutral and release the hand brake, does the car roll no problem with a gentle push? If it is on a slight incline with the same test does it roll freely down the incline.

It needs a check anyway, jack the wheel off the ground and spin it, does it spin freely with no rubbing or scuffing? This is only since the garage done the rear brakes, what other problems were there?

The body roll is a little different. The garage can check your shocks, springs, anti roll bar etc but unless there is a failure they cant do anything. It is not inconceivable that your suspension is slightly slacker or softer than it once was. This will be hard to prove, and will have no impact on an MOT, unless there is a component failure.

Are you really sure about the body roll, are you only driving that vehicle or are you driving something else and comparing them? It is hard to be objective in such a test, ie what it feels like now against what it felt like some 000's of miles ago.

Without a component failure thee is nothing to be done, unless you want to upgrade/renew. What terrain do you drive over, is this putting extra strain on the suspension. Some housing areas contain a lot of speed bumps, I regularly observe people with new cars just hitting these at normal driving speed. Four of these things on an exit road which you need to travel over every time you enter or leave your house could have a dramatic effect over time depending on the severity of the bump and the speed you cross it at.

Try searching then posting the Auris forum (is there one) to see if anyone else has this issue.

Mention all these things to Toyota. They wont charge you if they dont find anything wrong with it, but better you bring these things to their attention. Better safe than sorry.

I would check that tyre pressures are correct first. Its unlikely there is anything wrong with shocks/springs etc as it hasnt done many miles.

I have a Yaris which has now done 44,000 miles and the front alloys still become black whereas the rears are clean!

I must say that I do not know if they have the same brake set up as I am not that technical, do you know of any other Auris dealers that have the problem with the dust?
