Whis Offset Would Be Better?

Hi guys,

I'm having some trouble finding the aftermarket wheels that I really like for my Auris in sky black color.

I have finally managed to find something that I kind of like on 17x7 dimensions (for 225/45 tires), but those Enkei wheels are only available with two offsets (ET): either 40 or 50.

Knowing the fact that the producer's recommended offset is 45, which of the two specs would be better: 40 or 50?

Thanks a lot for your advice!

P.S. Sorry for the typo on the topics title!

40 is better. looks better

Because the center of the wheel goes further inside? Has the handling changed by going with a smallet offset?

I was thinking to go with the 50 mm offset considering the future mods I will do to my car - and in the future it's possible to also upgrade to bigger brakes...

I am considering fitting some wheels on my 2010 auris, can anybody let me know if 17x8j with ET33 will fit? The car has 16x6.5j ET45. The car got the original suspension and i am planning keeping it as it is, not sure if it will make it look like a jeep.

It might fit,  but because it will go more towards the car, it might catch on suspension with full lock left/right.  I would try, and add spacers as necessary.

Oh i see, it sounds that it will be better going with higher ET then. What's the optimum ET for 17x8j wheels on the facelift Auris so that the wheels are ''just'' sticking out of the body a touch?

The smaller the offset, the more wheel goes into the car, the higher, it goes outwards, but in both way wrong ofset can cause you to rub.

I doubt those wheels would fit, atleast based on info from https://www.wheel-size.com which for me provided accurate information in the past.

You want to mount a rim which is 1 inch wider than the maximum allowed ones, with smaller offset, which means it goes towards the car, meaning 90% you will rub.

So am i looking for 17x8j with ET40 ish offset then?  Original wheels are 16x6.5j and they are ET45

7Jx17 ET50 for 225/45Z or  245/45.  Big rims on small cars are usually tight fit, i dont know if you can fit 178J on it, but you can mount a pair and try it.

Most of the people on here they go for 17x8 or even 8.5j with no issues. The car can take it as long as i get the right ET
