I had my front pads replaced today at my local toyota dealer (£75 after covering 27,000 miles). They told me the discs are 'lipped', they measured 18.556mm, and said they recommend changing them before they measure less than 18mm. How thick are the discs when new and how much longer do you think they will last? I have never replaced discs before reaching 50k on other cars.

Aygo disc's start out 20mm thick and the worn limit is 18mm, i guess now you've had the pads replaced leave the disc till the pads get low again.

I took my Aygo in to have the steering adjusted as the steering wheel was slightly "non central" and, while at it, MrT changed both discs (without charge) as they were lipped.

I had measured them before and they were just under 19mm thick.

I did not ask them to check the discs, but they do their "health and safety" check when a car is brought in and lipped discs must be something "big MrT", in Japan, does not like.

I think you should get them changed for free unless your mileage is too great. My mileage was about 15000, when they were changed.

Strange that as you really shouldnt get replacement discs under warranty. The only time they will skim or replace discs for free (warranty) is when they are heavily grooved or the faces are corroded (causing noise and vibration).

Lucky you :)

This has been discussed before on the forum and the fact remains:..I took the car in for one thing to be done , went for a walk while they were doing it and got a mobile phone message to say to say if OK with me they would change the discs as they were lipped. I said yes, they said no charge.

I thought at the time perhaps Toyota was not happy with the hardness of some of the Aygo discs and were advising dealers to check any Aygos that come in for excessive wear, and take appropriate action.

Last Thursday I took the car in for its second service and apart from everything being done as expected, I noticed all the wheel nuts (alloy wheels) had been changed for new ones.

The old ones were a bit scruffy but not that bad, so that too was a bonus.

I had not complained about or mentioned the discs, or the wheel nuts, and had to pay for neither.

By the way, I declined the changing of the brake fluid as I have a meter for measuring the degree of water absorption and it is well within the safe tolerance level.

I will get it done next year as it is included in the 3rd year service, which I have pre-paid.
