Well im coming very close to the 50k mile service on the aygo, so i thought i would post up how life has been as i feel the aygo has been getting a lot of bad press lately on here by people with bad experiences and you hardly ever hear about the good ones :)

Anyway, 50k miles and im one very happy aygo owner :D

It starts first time every morning at 6:45 and covers a big area of the country which is a mixture of motorway and stop start city traffic. It will happily sit there at 95 all day long :) (not saying it does ;) )

So far not a single problem with the car, nothing has fallen off or stopped working and she still goes as well as the day she was new.

I fitted a set of EBC greenstuff front pads at 35k miles as Toyota reported the factory ones were between 70-80% worn.

(Soooooooo easy to change the pads, i did both sides in under 30mins and i was taking my time)

I also bought 4 brand new tyres for it at 42k miles, not bad for a set of tyres aye :) granted they were all very low with one just below the legal limit.

With tax coming down to £20 a year come 2009, insurance costing me £200 full comp and 500+ miles to a £35 tank of fuel im put off ever buying another car and then hemmoraging money like i used to with my supra's and celica's.

I've got a history of V8's and other such muscle cars but i now find them very unefficient compared to the aygo. In fact i've fallen in love with sub 1litre engines so much i chopped in the Evo and bought a superbike

I now have uber economy and veyron acceleration for next to nothing! I can have my cake and eat it

I actually had 5 people in it the other day (not sure if i was legally allowed to do that to be honest as its really only got 4 seats) but it was fine :) Plenty of power and had no problems getting up hills or over speed bumps.

Would i buy another aygo? yes i would but i've grown so attached to my little aygo black that i dont know whether another one would feel the same

Would i replace the aygo with anything else on the market? no way, closest would be the IQ but im not paying more than an aygo for something that is smaller. There is nothing else for the money that costs as little to run, is as comfortable, quiet, well mannered or handles as well.

I score the aygo 10 out of 10 as its just been everything that i was promised it was going to be and more!

And bloody good to hear it too!

Lets not forget your little Aygo inspired me to get one - and I feel the same as you do about mine!

Here's to another 50k hun!

Agree Fully

I changed from a Discovery3 to my aygo in sept and have booked up a florida holiday for the family on what I've saved in 3 months!!!

I still look longingly at SL55s, M5's etc but after the novelty of speed and luxury wears off, I stll love the smug feeling of driving the Aygo (and the saving!)

What an brilliant report - brought a smile to my face. I'm some 40,000 miles behind you but even though I swapped from a Mini Cooper S I feel as though I've had some kind of massive pay rise with the money I'm saving.

The early C1 adverts kind of sum it up very well for me - they showed a C1 parked in an Airport carpark with grass growing round them and said 'Why spend all your money on a car?'

Here's to another 50k!

Wow 50,000 miles, mine is on 20,000, had it now for 2 and a half years. I also can't imagine swapping for anything else, the overall cost is great. It's not the the average 52mpg, but also the £280 insurance i pay and the £35 road tax. I just don't see the point in paying ££££ for a car that takes me to work and back.

Yes I to came from something fast changed it for bike and my BRILL AYGO 20.000 miles and love it to bits still :) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've just passed 40000 miles with my Aygo (petrol 3dr 'Sport') - owned from new for 2.5 years.

I've no complaints at all - the interior is still fine, insurance for me and my wife is £180 fully comp, my average mpg since buying the car is 58.6mpg (but over the last 6 months I've been driving a bit more economically and my average for the last 6 months is 62.7 mpg). Since buying the car, my average overall petrol cost per mile is 7.5p.

I paid £100 for two new front tyres at 35000 miles.

Servicing has cost £470.

A stonechip to which I paid no attention and allowed to rust and spread cost £370 to have the roof sorted out - ouch.

But overall it's been a great economical car for 30-mile-each-way commutes and running around town, with the odd 2-3 hour motorway cruises.

I'm looking at getting an Audi A3 cabriolet for the motorway cruising and commuting now - it'd be nice to have something a bit more luxurious and I've been saving up! And with interest rates on savings accounts so low now, and 12% discount on new Audis from drivethedeal, and rumours of VAT being reduced this week - I'm thinking, why not :) The Aygo will live on as a city runaround and for my wife to use when I'm working evenings/nights/weekends.

Nobody has an Aygo that can sit on the motorway at 95mph all day long unless they keept it in 4th, live in Holland or the speedo is way out. Nobody who drives like this plus stop start traffic can do 500 miles on a petrol tank either.

;)

Eh? Andy what are you on about?

If you are going up and down the country like i am on the motorways all day then YES you can keep an aygo very happily at 95 all day long. Or are you being technical with regards to slowing down for hills etc?

I didn't say that i got 500+ miles to a tank at the same time as doing 95. When going at those kinda speeds i get 450 out of a tank from top to absolute bottom.

But im rarely doing more than about 60mph as i trek up and down the country because im a mpg fan.

Just because you cant get your aygo to do it dont think everyone else is unable to either. Driving style is more important than anything

Leeky - is yours petrol or diesel? I'd struggle to reach 500 miles on a tank on my petrol model (though I only fill up to the first click on the pump).

Petrol :)

500miles is a peice of cake to get from a tank. Just be sure to pull away from the lights very gently, change up early to avoid overworking the engine. Try to stick to 60mph on motorways and keep your tyre pressures up to scratch.

Also you can get a lot more in after the pump clicks, i always fill right to the brim.

Wish I shared your enthusiasm.

Owned from new. Alternator and water pump just packed up at 36k, I'm lucky if I get 380 miles to a tank, I struggle to keep up with traffic without ragging it in 1st and 2nd, the seats are uncomfortable, water leaks in everywhere, loads of seals have gone, the paints fading, the pattern on the steering wheel has rubbed off.

I'm starting to realise why this car was so cheap.

Well I am nearing 30k miles now (oh really must book my service) at a year and half old. and have no complaints about my car, as leeky says sits nicely 95 if wanted, I dont feel I have to rag it to keep up traffic, I do find it hard not to rag it though cos I just love the low speed acceleration.

Had couple of bits fixed under warranty but nothing major and got courtesy car every time.

Might have to look at my brake pads soon tho if yours want about 35 and mine were noted as worn on last service, you say easy Leeky but is that easy-for-a-bloke-that-knows-what-he-is-doing easy or any pillack-who-isnt even-sure-where-the-brakepads-are easy?

Am not an MPG watcher so cant tell you much about that, might learn maths one day.

As for being cheap, yes it cheap due to simplicity and lack of 'luxuries' to the car, no other reasons.

Well...yes admittedly you need to know how to drive a car for economy to get it. But i think the most important thing is to be gentle with the car as driving gently is the easy way to good economy. :)

I meant changing the break pad disc thingys...

I never have any intention of driving ecologically, am not shallow, I have the Aygo for its looks not its money (saving )

ive had my car 11 months, and already its been back to toyota twice for damp starting, leaking boot etc.

how the hell do you get 500 miles to a tank?? i just touch 300 IF im lucky & drive at 20mph everywhere

You'll probably need to get into 4th and 5th gears to get the best economy. I doubt it would be very efficient at 20mph.

300!?

You must do a lot of stop start traffic or you must drive it quite hard perhaps?

I commute up and down the M4 and then up the M25 to the M40/M1 most of the time so im always pretty much doing motorway miles. I do about 30mins of stop/start traffic driving per day.

When the last bar starts to blink im gauranteed's to always have covered at least 400miles even if i've been caning it.

Have you got any modifications to yours? as those will massivly affect economy

Posted

I get about 350 but I do a lot of stop-start traffic plus I'm very heavy on the old right foot....

I do about 40 miles a week on the motorway now too but that doesn't make much of a difference to my range....

maybe some aygo's are thirstier than others?

No, it's simple science.... I don't drive economically therefore my car is not, you do so your car is! lol  And that's going to be the same for every standard Aygo out there. I've seen how you drive yours! lol

The best I have ever got from a tank is 450 but that is to and from work 30 miles total . I think 500 miles is possable on a long run !

Posted

500 miles on a tank of unleaded is definitely possible, it's just going to take a bit of care.

There have been a handful of times where I've been at 470-480 miles and the last bar hadn't started to blink, so I'm sure those would reach 500 miles if I'd not filled up. Those figures give me >70mpg on those particular tanks of fuel.

(I only fill up to the 'first click' at the pump so my spreadsheet figures have some sort of consistency with mpg 'per tank' - if you squeeze it in sometimes, and don't completely fill up other times, calculated 'per tank' mpg figures will be all over the place)
