Help Before Buying

Hello

I wounder if anyone could help?

I have a deposit down to buy a avensis 1.8vvti 2003.

Since i viewed it at the dealer (non-toyota) it has had a lot of work carried out after its mot. it was miss fireing?

It has now become apparent that cyclinders 3+4 were hitting the pistons, so they will replace the valves and new cam shaft.

They said the pin holding the the drive chain sheared so what happened would of been the same as if a cam belt had snapped.

Not sure if I should commit to buy even after all this work is carried out? it could be problematic later or this could happen on another buy and I would have to pay more.

Just not sure what to do.

Can anyone advise?

Regards

B

Sounds a bit dodgy to me, the 1.8 VVTi has enough problems with burning oil without all this. As it's chain driven it doesn't have a cambelt that can snap so something else has gone wrong with it.

If you particularly want an Avensis there are plenty out there and its a buyers market so i'd look for another one.

Hi James

Thanks for your opinion.

I shall try and move on from this car in question.

The dealer was trying to tell me the benefits of having all this work and parts done at no extra cost...

Thus having an improved car. ?
