Just got my avensis back after getting head gasket fixed , and sitting at the traffic lights noticed a small trickle of steam coming from the radiator grill??? before i left mr t, the service guy said "check the coolant level regularly as we have filled it but it may use a bit more until it goes through the system" when i got home the bottle was empty, i filled up and am gonna check it after my school runs which are aprox 120 miles ,, could the steam be coming from the engine drying out ????? or do you think its a more serious problem???????i rang toyota straight away and they said keep an eye on it and after couple of days if its still the same bring it back !!!!!!!! :censor: :censor: :censor: when i lifted the bonnet the steam seemed to be coming from the radiator grill direction???

hi

it looks very strange -- as a dealers they were to give the car out to you as tested/drived. but now you are along with the same problem again.

now you have to add the coolant both in radiator and into expansion tank and see see what is going on -- whether the level is reduced or not.

in case the level will be increased then ask them to check either thermostat or gasket tightening. I deem the gasket must be re-tighten in some milage.

cheers/Igor

Presuming some coolant was spilt whilst head work was carried out & you may have some of this coolant disapating from engine heat.

I think the QUESTION hear should be presuming all parts have been refitted properly (and you have no leaks) pipes, clamps etc etc.

QUESTION is why has car been returned to customer when the coolant system may well not have been purged of all air. If this is the case & system has had an air lock this is extreme bad practice which if it had been the case could have resulted in more engine damage.

Goes without saying that you should check all your levels once a week, but to return a car that possibly had not been purged of all air from sytem is beyond me. I take it this is an official approved Toyota dealership?

Sorry for time delay in above posting ie; in regards to missing bolt. I know we all make mistakes, but not fitting thermo housing bolt is almost akin to fitting 3 spark plugs to a 4 pot engine. Have you not the option of another Toyota dealer within reasonable distance, your car seems to be getting close to using it's 9 lifes. Must be a Friday afternoon car.
