1990 Celica St

I have a 1990 celica st and it recently developed a really nasty knocking. There is a huge loss of power to almost the point it stalls out and when i start getting up to speed there is a very distinct and loud engine knock. Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it?

First of all welcome, about your question do you consume engine oil and is there a white smoke on your tail pipe? If so your engine might be blow by you have to overhaul it.

the oil seems fine and a small amount of smoke only when i start it. when im driving there is none
