Tail Lights

Hi guys,

how do you remove the tail lights on the early spec GTI-16? The whole thing seems to be sealed by the tailgates metal in the interior. :(

Is there another way to get them out that I don't know about or am I just screwed.

Open the hatchback and all will become clear!! 2 screw headed bolts between the light unit and the rubber seal of the hatch.. 2 pegs on the sides of the light unit do not snap these but prise them.. Haynes, Chapter 12 Paragraph 4

Thanks alot mate. I couldn't figure the b*stard out!

It did seem to be a rather strange design fault not to be able to take out the tail lights.

tail lights are next on the list. I have just had a MOMO steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake handle delivered, and only a few days before did I get my clutch delivered. A good month for car parts!

yeah removing the lights is a very easy job as redneck explained lol

Will do mate.

I'll be fitting the parts after christmas and I'll take some pics when they're all on.

I might be geing some front brake discs too which will be the late spec ones.

Probably.

There was a late spec version but the 5th gear jumped out. I think someone here bought it.
