hi mate they are not to much of a problem to fit the problem occurs when changing bulbs in general,

you need a h7 HID kit, the bulbs are h7 therefor they will fit in plce of your old bulbs without modification the only difference is you have to replace the existing bulb and then connect your original wiring to the ballast, mounting the ballasts is simple you just wire tie them to anything stable or i bolted mine in i can take pics later after work if its still light. Id go for them dont know about mot i just passed mine with them on but i have had no police trouble about them so go for it if you want. You can always put original bulbs back in come mot time as you dont cut any wires you just by pass with connectors to the ballast.

Is there any sort of wire cutting involved or does it all just plug in? also where did you get yours from and how much?

no there's no cutting of wires. its a straight fit. when i did mine i took out the lights just to get all the wires hidden and out of sight. but its not nescessery. i got mine on eBay for around €80.

There is no wire cutting needed as mentioned above the spades from the existing wires will fit into the new kit that you purchase. Its quite simple and straight forward and does look alot better and definately improves vision any time of the day.

I purchased mine from HIDS4U and bought the ultimate kit was £199.99 but someone had poste a discount code and i ended up getting them for around £140 which is quite abit still. yout can get a kit off eBay for around £60 i would reccomend HIDS4U even if you settle for one of the lower kits but i would definately go for miinee loll.

i got mine from a mate for £60 but there are much better kits on eBay tbh for the same price mainly all of them are made the same so its up to you which seller you choose i reckon.

o yea there is no wire cutting or anything basically your original plug for your bulbs gets rewired into the ballast and then the wires from the ballast or something connect to the bulb all plug and play very simple

Just made posting whilst you placed posting. Try HIDS4U.co.uk, they sell road legal CE approved 35w - 6000k kit that comes with 2 year warranty.

Have a look around on these forums. I can't remember what the code is but there's a 40%? discount code on here for HIDS4U.co.uk

Believe people are getting really good kits cheap?

i think the trouble only comes from the polices when the HID's are giving off an almost blue light, that depends on the K rating on the set, what your after is a true 5500K any higher and the light will start to take on a blue tindge

HIDS4U.co.uk are currently selling kit (Proplus i think?) all in for £99.99. I think special offer may still be running, if you want to avoid problems with Traffic - Core go for CE approved 35w kit.

I have 5000k bulbs in mine and they look blue. But that's mainly due to the sidelights I think... Had various MOT Testers tell me they'll pass and not illegal though, so meh! :D

Feel free mate.

Just send me a PM or something when you fancy it. Here's the latest pics with them fitted anyway.

EDIT: Er, Just so you're aware these are just replacement bulbs and not actually a HID kit! £25 for sidelights and dipped. Think I'll uprate the fogs and mains soon.

The CE rating is rubbish. thats not what you'll be done for.

you need an auto levelling system and washers, if you don't have them and the t sport doesn't, the CE mark means diddly squat.

To nrgizerbunny,

What do you mean by auto levelling system, the rotary switch as fitted to most cars EX: 0 to 4 for lowering & levelling height. As in when towing a load or caravan. And what is the need for washers, because if what you say is true i have an illegal system.

Regards, Beagh.

PS: How can CE rating have know worth. Sorry should point out i don't have T-Sport i have 03 Avensis11.

That's manual not auto.

Just found this.......

Are HID Kits Legal?

The first HID kits appeared several year ago now and their popularity continues to increase with there now being hundreds of different types available in a range of colours, most of which have originated from the Far East, most notably China. However despite the huge growth in popularity one question still remains - Are HID Kits Legal on UK roads?

The Department of Transport says that for a aftermarket HID Headlamp to be road legal in the UK it must be:

* E-marked to confirm that it has undergone stringent safety checks

* Fitted to a vehicle with a self levelling system - either in the headlight unit or in the vehicle’s suspension

* Fitted to a Vehicle with a Wash/Wipe Headlight System

* The Headlight must be in good working order, kept clean and correctly aligned

The last three points are designed to prevent the powerful xenon lights from dazzling oncoming drivers. There are however other points to consider: To stay road legal Original Equipment HID xenon bulbs operate at 35 watts and have a colour temperature of 4300k to 6000k.

So there you have it, HID Kits can be road legal providing they are installed in accordance with Department of Transport Rules and that the kit operates at 35w with a bulb colour temperature between 4300k to 6000k. Unfortunately because online retailers can never be sure how their HID kits are going to be installed they are normally sold as “For Off Road and Show Use only”.

So they are illegal on a Corolla.

i think avanzato pretty much summed it up. its not so much the cops i would be worried about, its the lack of insurance cover if you prang it.

Thank you for reply.

My car meets requirements on 3 counts with the exception of washer system. Being in the trade i have checked the testing standards required for NCT same as MOT with certain modifications & as such my car is road legal.

Thank you for clearing matter up & quick reply.

PS: Just one point lots of English imports come in as standard with factory fitted xenon lights with no washer kits. I think you have a bit of a grey area with

your testing system.

i think you've got mixed up with xenon and HID.

xenon is the inert halogen gas in the bulb, bog standard and HID bulbs can both have xenon gas in the bulb. the problem is car makers market HID bulbs as Xenon bulbs when tungsten filament bulbs can also have xenon gas.

The difference is the way the glow is made, on a normal bulb its through a filament which is essentially a very small resistor just like you have in your house light bulb.

In a HID bulb the glow is made by having two prongs very close together and a very high voltage across them. This produces an arc like a lightning bolt and this produces the light. This is why you need a ballast to get the high voltage.

To have non HID bulbs, ie anything without a ballast. the bulb only has to be e marked. I believe european legislation states 55w dipped and 60w main beam.

To have HID bulbs, you need to have an automatic (gimbal type) self levelling system (the corolla does not have this, the levelling dial does not count), washers (corolla does not have this) and also the correct lenses for the type of light bulb, its hit and miss whether the beam pattern will look the same with HID v non HID. if it is the same then you'll pass on that.

hope that helps.

Technically HID's are illegal but ive never known anybody myself included to be failed for them, its not the end of the world is it really.

Dont run them on the corolla though due simply to lazyness.
