Missing Boot Lock On '03 Avensis

I have an '03 Avensis T4 hatchback, and the Battery has recently started losing its charge. I'll be replacing it shortly, but in the meantime, we've had three instances where the Battery ran down while playing the radio/using lights with engine off (only for 10-15 minutes, mind).

In each case, I wasn't able to open the boot to get access to the jump leads which I keep in a storage compartment - the boot catch simply wouldn't release. It seems to rely on the Battery being charged.

I have a friend with an '05 Avensis saloon and his has a nice, standard keylock under the lip of the boot handle -- but mine doesn't; I've had a good look for it. Presumably Toyota simply ommitted this on the early models of the new Avensis, and then added it back later after discovering the limitation.

Is there any magic solution to opening the boot when the battery is dead that I can use in future?

Thanks,

Eddy

Not sure if there is or not but if you need access to the boot and you can't get in, you could always fold a back seat down.

That's exactly what we had to do in each case. (Well, it happened to me once and my partner twice.)

Usually, the boot is full of baby prams and other such stuff, so getting into the cubbyholes via the back seat is a real challenge :-(
