Help New Stereo Doesnt Fit! (maybe)

Just fitted a new MP3/WMA player to my 2000 plate Corolla. Problem is I didnt wait for the new fascia adapter to arrive and the centre console doesnt want to click into place. The new stereo sits about 2mm higher than the old one which is why it doesnt fit.

I am hoping someone here is going to tell me the fascia adapter will sit lower allowing it all to fit but am a bit surprised because the original fitting actually suited the stereo perfectly. The stereo even had two holes on either side to fit the dimples on the metal cage.

Please tell me it will be fine once the adapter arrives in Halfords!

Ok, thought I would update this for anyone in the same boat as me.

I got the fascia adaptor from Halfords on Sat afternoon and tried to fit it that day. Low and behold the adaptor is not compatible with my 2000 Corolla. It goes from 93 to 97. I found one diagram that was really quite similar so tried that. The tabs at the bottom were out of line so bent them out a bit to fit. That worked and the stereo was pretty solid. Tried putting the center console back on and the tabs I had bent out interfered with the cup holder preventing it from fitting.

I took it back to Halfords to see if they had any other options but the only ones they had were the one I had bought or a 2002 onwards. I did manage to get a refund even though I had broken off the unused tabs and snapped off the bottom piece to fit the compartment/cubby-hole.

In the end the only way I could fit it was by removing the cubby-hole and mounting the stereo further down the bracket. I now have a dirty big gap at the top where the stereo should be.

I am now going to have to find something to fill the hole in :(

Is this similar to the one you bought and returned?

I'm sure one of my friends got this one and it worked? Could be wrong though!

It actually doesnt look the same but the fascia adaptor screws on from the side so doubt this would be any good to me. You can actually see one of the brass screws and each of the metal fittings on each side in the big gaping hole in my pic.

I actually looked at this one before going to Halfords and decided against it as it is more grief trying to get a refund from an eBay seller than Halfords. I was lucky to even get one there.

Cheers for the suggestion though :)

There are 4 screws all in that fit the plates to the car and 4 again that fit the plates to the stereo. None of these are at the top which that eBay shot looks like.

TBH I have kind of given up and will just look for some blank piece of plastic to fill the gap. Just wanted to let anyone know who may be in my shoes at some point not to bother going to Halfords 'cause they definitely cant help.
