hi everyone. ive got a 2003 corolla t sport. my engine has begun to tap pretty loud. it also sounds like somethings rattleing. ive had an oil change(twice) and that hasnt worked. had it flushed too. im thinking a shim or vavle clearance problem. has anybody got any ideas as its driving me mad.

Mine would be fairly tappy idling when the engine is warm...i got mine checked by a Toyota mechanic and he said they all tend to do it over 40,000 miles, some worse than others and its nothing to worry about. He said that mine was quite quiet for the age and mileage. Its 2002 50k

I take it that there is plenty of oil in the car though?

plenty ov oil in there mate. some guy just told me it sounds like a dry chain. my pump could be knackerd. that wil explain the rattleing but not the tapping. ive just looked on another site and it said sumthing about the vvtli controller.

I think your possibly looking too much into it, if your worried about it get it checked by Toyota..call in and ask a mechanic to have a listen to it.
