Prius In Adverse Conditions

My son has been driving his Prius in the French Alps. He tells me that the Prius although a great car; in snow on mountain roads it is useless. He used snow chains but there was not a lot of improvement. The anti skid device cannot be disengaged which is a problem.

Has anybody used a Prius in such conditions? Perhaps good snow tyres may help.

Locals told him the Fiat Panda or the Skoda are the recommended cars for snowy mountain roads with snow tyres and chains.

If we get bad Winter conditions with heavy snow in the UK it looks as if the Prius would be no good. If you live in any mountainous region and there is snow then the Prius can be a problem.

I would like to hear of anybody who has experience of the Prius operating in these conditions.

Hi Chris,

Hope this thread will help your son in his quest for better grip in the snow. There is a nokian dealer in England but I am not sure of the availability with normal tyre distributors. I think there is not a single tyre that is "a man for all seasons" but this person in america seems to rave about them.

Thanks Stompe,

I have passed the info to my son.

If we get a lot of snow here I think our Prius cars will not perform to well without snow tyres.

Cheers Chris.

I am going to be no more worried in my Prius than I would be any other car.
