Whoops! :o

I made a mistake! I said that I could mod to 240bhp without a crank but it's actually 160bhp where I need to start looking at the lower end.

i can see the appeal of keeping a 4A-GE in there but the amount of cost to get it to 200bhp would well fund a gen3 3S-GTE swap that has 250bhp and would run that all day long and have a shed load more torque.

a 4A tuned to that level would not really be road drivable, the cam duration would make town driving an absolute mare as the power band would be very high in the rpm range.

don't want to put you off just look at all areas

when the rolla was first converted i was running about 310bhp and the car was perfectly usable as day to day transport as well as damn quick. that was the appeal for me of going that route. if your building a pure track only weapon then yeah a highly tuned 4A may be the way to go but will cost £££££'s

I'm looking for a drivers car really so I need to get myself a steady and wide power-band so i'll use 272 cams or slightly less, and I may get a supercharger to get the width of the power band. :)

I'm going to get things liek an exhaust, filter and Ksport coilovers to get the suspension setup right. Mines awful right now, it's incredibly spongy and soft. Is that normal or have my shocks gone?

People keep saying that the GTI's really fast but I can't tell because I haven't driven it yet and that makes me want to get the engine more powerful. I need to get the engine in good nick as standard first which means getting replacement hoses all round. :D

if your going for Ksports beware they have the ride compliance of concrete. it may be possible to change the spring rates though as i believe they use std2.5" ID springs. as std they are pretty rapid for what they are. think back to when they were new what small hatches had 130bhp.

they are easy as quick as the 1.6 205 gti. in fact i would guess they would just about keep up with the CTS

Thanks for the warning, I'll try to get my hands on some more adjustable coilover so that the rebound is slightly soft so it doesn't destroy all ride comfort!

Do you know anyone else who supplies better coilover than Ksport cause they're the only guys who seem to supply them for the GTI.

the struts for the AE 111 will fit as well IIRC johnAE111 has a set fitted but cant remember the brand.

you can use Ksport but will have to specify spring rates, might cost a little more but they are good value anyway
