Avensis 2.0 T2 D4d Questions

hiya there,

as you can see i am a newbie, so please accept my apologies if i say or do anything daft.

My avensis is a basic 2.0 T2 D4D model. This does not have any sat nav built-in. My questions are:-

1. I have heard that its possible to add the sat-nav capability by simply upgrading the software. Is this acheivable by myself? If so, how??

2. Can i use BIO-FUEL instead of the normal diesel? If so, can this mess up the engine?

For now this is all i need help with.

kind regards

Greetings fellow AVENSIEN

Answering you first question.......it's really not worth the aggro installing the basic toyota satnav. Instead you might as well get a basic tomtom for under £99. this unit will give you better navigation and also have the speed camera database, also you ccan have the most updated maps ETC ETC. going back to the toyota nav.......to much hassle punching in the street name and no post code capabilities. ;)

Thank you jabbar,

The reason I was wanting the original sat-nav to work is because i don't carry the tomtom 520 in the car all the time as someone has attempted to nick it twice. Its very useful to have the toyota sat-nav as a backup just incase i need it.

Also what about this bio-fuel thing?? Is it possible and is it worth it?

To toyota - avensis,

I am of the school of don't put anything into your tank that it was not designed for, many people will have completely different points of view, all though you say you only have a basic T2 D4D model. Trim level this may be the case, but engine wise every part of your fuel system is a highly sophisticated piece of machinery from low pressure pump, high pressure pump, common fuel rail to your injectors that bare know resemblance to injectors or any other part of fueling system from the past of the past. And this engine was designed to use diesel.

Luckily i live in a country with very very low fuel prices so we don't have an urgency to find other options, people will tell you of the wonderful lubricating capacities ( have never quite understood this point of view, what does it mean ) of these other fuel options, but i am quite sure any forum users who use two wheeled travel can tell you what it is like to hit a diesel spill on the road, like skating on ice with no blades.

I personally would not do it, wait for other opinions as others will set out a counter case for said use of these fuel options.

Not being smart, but as to SAT/NAV fitment maybe a trip to a Toyota dealer will clear up your question regarding fitment one way or the other.

Regards, Beagh.

oh thanks for your prompt reply beagh...i have just posted a min before you. Dealers cost a lot of money and i've been told that all i require is some sort of a cd which will upgrade the software and add sat-nav capability...don't know how true this is though.

To toyota- avensis,

I guess in that case, whats the point. Wait for the New Year sales, nip down to Halfords & see what offers they have on Sat/Nav systems. I recently carried out map disc update for my system & new disc with VAT will cost me £125 + VAT & this is for 2008 disc. I am told that if i wait to FEB they will have a new 2009 disc for sale. So i guess it's what ever suits your pocket.

Regards, Beagh.

Quick question.........when you say a new cd to upgrade...does that mean you already have the dvd-rom under passenger seat?

NO NO NO............that what I thought also. When I first bought mine I also put the nav cd in the dash cd player but then realised the the cd-rom is located under front passenger seat. It is not possible to work the navigation throufg the ordinary cd player nor can you update any software through it. the complete kit has to be installed.

To Both,

Have TNS300ETA system, a bit on the old side now & considered fiddly to use my many. But i have had it so long it gives me no bother, yes system is placed under passenger seat. For update disc go to "www.toyota-mapupdates.eu" you have to use code of old disc, process quite straight forward just follow the prompts.

Thank You to both of you. I can't find anything under the passenger seat. My cd/cassette deck model is w53900....I'm very confused now and would like someone to kindly clarify:-

1. Does my toyota have the hardware already installed and simply needs a software update?

2. If the above is true, then other than proper toyota websites, where can i get the software from eithier cheap or free?

Greetings,

No your model does NOT have navigation hardware pre installed and the dash cd player is just that and will not recognise any other cd/sofware

The following has navigation

T3-S

T4

TSPIRIT

The rest is tomtom I'm afraid, unless you wish to get the kit installed......waste of money!

Right thank you for that info Jabbar...at least I can now concentrate on other issues. One of them being if i should use Bio-Diesel or not.
