Reliability Issues

Hiya all

Jus to give you the benift of my experience i brought my ts couple of months ago its on an 02 with 40k genuine on the clock with full extensive toyota service history

I only had the car couple of weeks when the big end bearings went so had to have a recon unit fitted after much reasearch i found out that on the 2zz oil is crutial it must not be run low ever !! as this is fatal as the big end bearings pick up and start to scrach immediatly

Also the is an issue that toyota are well aware of concerning the oil pump that is that under normal driving conditions it is not possible to over rev the engine using the throttle alone hoewvwr if the engine is kicked down from say 6th to fourth at high revs it shatters the lobe rings on the pump hence big bills.

Im not saying that this will happen on all ts's but just though i would offer some advise is there any1 else on here that has suffered simmlar problems ???

i bought spares of a celica 190 owner who did the same - dropped down too many cogs. its not a reliability issue - pure bad/unfortunate miscalculation driving.

all engines suffer when low on oil but early vvtl-i they had issues which caused oil useage. most didnt check the oil often enough which helped them - the engines knackered within the limits set by Toyota so a free replacement was issued. if they had kept topping the oil up regular they would have prolonged issues and run out of scope with the manufacturer. a bit of research and sense would have saved you a lot of propblems - dont slate the 2zz for your own misgivings.
