After Sales Cruise Control.

I have a 2008 Yaris D-4D automatic and I have just had fly-by-wire cruise control fitted to my car by Dave Newell Dave Newell - Leisure Vehicle Services of Telford.

It only took a few hours and works perfectly. The Gold AP800 cruise control stalk is has been fitted slightly in front of and just below the original left hand stalk on the steering column and is easy to operate. It has two memory buttons for preset speeds. The normal cost fitted is £411 but at the moment there is a sale price of £369.

Though Dave normally deals with Motorhomes and other leisure vehicles he is happy to work on cars. I have used him for three different mods, the earlier ones were to my hightop campervan and his work has always been first class. I also had him fit a reversing sensor kit (4 sensors) and this was coloured coded to match bumper and also works well.

That is a very good price for a fitted installation

I paid about £400 for the AP800, the car-specific harness (which was £37.50) and the CM25, which looks very similar to the CM35 but has 3 presets rather then 2.

My price did not include fitting either, as I installed myself.

The way the £ has dropped against the euro makes this £369 price even more keen as the kit comes in from Holland

Oh - and this IS compatibable with a manual transmission car as well - just need to get a clutch-switch fitted (parts are about £12.50)

At last someone who has the same model as me as been and done it! Nice one. In a previous posting on retrofitting cruise, i always said that if there was a feature I would like to add then it would be this. What is stopping me is warranty issues.

What implications has this had on your waranty seeing as yours is a 2008 model and that you have virtually all of the 3 years warranty at your disposal?

I bought a 57 reg D4D (manual gearbox) in May of this year and had a Gold Cruise AP800 fitted by Conrad Anderson in Birmingham (www.conrad-anderson.co.uk). Before having the c/c fitted I contacted Toyota about the warranty issue and they wrote back saying that they couldn't comment on any component that had not been 'homologated', nor could they offer any advice or technical assistance. However they also said that fitting the c/c would not automatically invalidate the warranty, but if you made a claim that was somehow connected to the installation of the c/c, the warranty would not cover the cost of repair. In other words you have to decide whether or not you want to take the risk that the c/c might somehow screw up some other component or system.

Since I use my car for fairly frequent journeys between NE Scotland and Cornwall, I decided to 'take the risk' have the c/c fitted and am delighted that I did. I can also recommend Conrad Anderson, the service was first class.
