Iam sorry to open up old sores on this issue but i need some advice. I went to my local dealership to order a set of run flats only to be told that Bridgestone have stopped production of this tyre until mid January at the earliest !!.

The dealership only had two in stock, so i booked my Rav in to have them fitted. So what happens now should any one needs a replacement tyre and no one has any stocks of them. Apparently stocks are very low so iam told.

Is there any replacement tyre on the market instead of Bridgestone ?.

Don't worry - the same has happened for the BMW and porsche earlier this year. You're not being singled out!!!

Sorry I can't provide a solution to your problem but I do sympathise. We have a fantastic vehicle that is spoilt only by the run flat tyre issue and Toyota's apparent inability to do any thing really practical about it. I was given some small compensation in the form of a voucher by Toyota following problems with a slow puncture on my T180 (see T180 dealer incompetance/ apathy on this forum.A voucher won't help if Im stuck for a while with a vehicle I can't use. NO tyres at all is the giddy limit. Good luck and please let us know how you get on. Moonraker.

Hi Moonraker, thanks for replying, i cant for the life of me understand why Bridgestone have all run flat owners by the short n curlies, there must be another manufacturer out there that makes run flats to fit the T180. After all i thought this system was the way forward, and was gonna be used on other models.

Sorry if this is slightly off topic: I had another run-flat related horror last week. I've had a slow puncture in one wheel for several weeks, I had been getting away with reinflating the tyre every couple of weeks. However on friday I went to blow up the tyre to discover a crack in the valve, I thought fair enough its only a valve that shouldn't be to expensive......how wrong was I!! As with everything in the T180 nothing is cheap, the valve connects to the cars computer by bluetooth to display when you have a soft tyre. In a normal wheel a replacement valve would probably be £5 plus fitting, the replacement for the T180 cost £151 plus labour plus VAT.....total £181!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone else had the same problem?

Not had the problem, but was aware that the sensors were in the valves, and they were going to be expensive to replace. However, I didn't expect them to be that expensive!!

I have an aftermarket TPMS system fitted, which seems to give superior information to the T180 system from what I can gather - I enquired how much a replacement valve and sensor would be (to have fitted to the spare) and was told £45 - so why the Toyota sensor should be over 3 times the price (n fact 4 times!) I cannot fathom.

silly person - you're paying for the name and the Toyota reliability :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

And in the beginning there was a RAV4, and Toyota deemed to have Dunlop as the sole tyre supplier;and henceforth a price of £200 a tyre was decreed - and that was 14 years ago. Nothing changes!!!

OK, sorry, I'm being picky, but I can't resist :D.

It's not bluetooth. bluetooth operates @ 2.45GHz and has a fair amount of relatively complex protocol overhead.

This system operates @ 434MHz and will have a fairly simple data transmission format.

Yes, I agree, the valves are expensive for what they are. For an OEM part, a fair amount of development and testing does go into them however. The components will be extended temperature range (unlike standard consumer electronics) and will have gone though extensive automotive quality selection requirements. All this costs money and it has to be recouped. Also, Automotive Electronic Design Engineers have to eat apparently.:thumbsup:
