hi please can you tell me why my 1991 surf has 2 batteries is it a 24 volt start system??

12volt system, both batteries are wired in parallel.

Toyota fitted two smaller batteries instead of one big one for some reason, the only problem with that is if one Battery dies, it will drain the other.

Two batteries were fitted to the 'Winter pack' option surfs which had a fuel heater and heater controls and blower motor in the rear seating area.

Sure, as long as the single Battery has a minimum of 700 cca. Basically, the higher the better.
