Tyres Slipping

Hi all,

Could anyone recommend a good set of tyres for my Rav4 1.8 Luna (2005) 75,000 Km? I only use it on-road. The originals (Toyo A14) slip/skid when moving from a standing start when the road is wet. The wheels spin at the slightest bit of acceleration. It's a bit scary and I'm glad I have not had to stand on the brakes in the wet because I reckon the car would skid and aquaplane like mad.

I have heard that the standard tyres are Japanese and not suitable for European winters? Somebody else reckoned that the problem was that the front of the car is too light? My dealer was useless, just said they would change them at next service but did not recommend any brand.

Has anyone had this problem and managed to cure it by changing the tyres?

I'm a car luddite so please keep acronyms to a minimum in any replies :D

Thanks

We have a member on here called Snowy3 who seemed to have a similar problem earlier in the year. Don't know if they were the same sort of tyres but I'm fairly sure the RAV was about the same age as yours. How about an update Snowy? What sort of tyres caused you the problem?

the Rav 4 doesnt really have enough power to cause this, check the tyres are they directional and have been fitted on the wrong sides? or was your car previously owned by some one that did minimal mileage so the tyres are really old, if they are they may have gone hard and lost their ability to grip
